At least with the GOBLIN line, being in London, there are many different transport options available. While 377s may have issues in the core, it has a huge knock on effect on other services, with no alternatives in the northern parts of the TL route.

Hopefully they will do what they did with the 377/5, provide support and actually get the product working. Does seem that Bombardier are having problems with their stock in the early days but knuckle down and get the stock up to an acceptable level. Problem is the early part of this curve is really bad and everyone suffers.

This may be why the 379s are going abroad for extensive testing before service- though we're getting off 172s now by a long way!

Very off point and I'll end it on this note. 380 were tested aboard, still had problems introducing.

Seems the 172 will be no different in this respect from any modern stock. Question is will LO pain with the 172 pay off for the other TOC awaiting their 172?

Cant help asking. How do they compare to the new class 380s?

In what way? They are for completely different purposes

The only reason I brought up the 380 was they were testing aboard and still had major issues when they started testing them over here. Was making the point with regards to the 379 going abroad to test.

Seems its not only Bombarbier who have problems with new stock. But I'm off point for this thread.

Reading some of the recent posts I wonder why threads have a heading.

So it seems the LM unit production is now happening again, let's hope similar for the Chiltern units.

Let's stick on one subject per thread guys lol

Production of LM units has recommenced starting with 3 car first. In addition, the first Chiltern vehicle is on the production line. Last time I looked it was in the erection phase without cab front or inter end assemblies fittted.

Are the Chiltern ones LM or LO style front ends? Current Chiltern fleet has no connectors, but this isn't always relevant.

Don't wish to be picky but the Class 380 where built abroad by Siemens in Vienna which is why they were tested abroad.

The class 379's are built by Bombardier here in the UK and the fact that they have to be tested abroad to me is shocking as we used to have at least three reasonably good test tracks. What has happened to them?

I'm guessing that this is the place?
None of the UK test tracks are circuits- circuits are good for mileage accumulation. Siemens have their circuit at their factory.

Not stopped other new classes doing milage accumulation overnight on the WCML. Seems to work ok.

There's a report on the 379s in Today's Railway this week. The trip to Velim is for interference testing.

Then they are going to do individual unit mileage accumulation on the WCML, and apparently that is the easiest place because there are plenty of paths spare.

Which probably explains why the 378s used the WCML I suppose...

Wikipiedia post says that LM 172's will enter service on Monday 13-12-10 LOL

Its on another forum that they are being used on the Hereford - Worcester - Birmingham New Street services.

Although i thought the 1st class 172's for London midland were not expected til 2011?

Right now? Or in general?

A London Midland 172 has never been outside the walls of Litchurch Lane (that's if there are any fully built).

Thats what i thought, i would have thought if any of the london midland class 172's have been completed and are being used on training runs that someone wuld have managed to photograph one of them by now.

The LM 172s are definitely not out and about yet. And why would they be put on the Herefords? That route already has 170s. The 172s are for the Snow Hill lines.

Love that one guys incorrect info on one forum has spread confusion across the net! It was pretty obvious they weren't going to be in public service on Monday though!

Still quite interesting that they've put up new stop signs, if that is true...

If wikipedia is wrong and you know it, either update it or delete the wrong information. That's how it works. It is easy...

172s would be wasted on anything but the Snow Hills, they are built for multiple stops where you can utilise the acceleration.
