Class 158s - anybody else find them horrid?

I'm shocked you've forgotten about the Northern Rail Class 158s on the York to Blackpool North route which use 3 car Class 158s!

It obviously doesn't work whilst running in FGW territory, instead it slightly bizarrely just says 'Class 153' all the time. Not entirely sure what value that is to the average punter!

Apart from half the time the 3 car 158'a are used on manchester victoria to leeds working and blackpool gets 2 cars. I believe a manchester victoria to blackpool north via bolton service is booked as a 3 car 158 although presumably for stock positioning.

The only fairly regular times I have seen two cars on the York - Blackpool services are either early morning or - annoyingly regularly - the 17:15 ex Blackburn to Blackpool.

Although last Friday, it was a 150 on the 11:29. Urgh!

OH right. I have not seen a 150 on it for ages. I normally know as the line is literally at the back of my house. Does anyone know when a 155 last ran to blackpool? Also 3 car 144's made a regular apearance at one point, normally mid morning. Was there ever a blackpool service booked for a pacer? (it was around 2003 i think).

Anything that is not a 158 has usually originated in Leeds as a replacement for the booked unit which has failed for one reason or another, in my own trevelling experience.

Last time I personally rode on a 155 was last summer on a saturday, but its been 156's more commonly in the past. Usually in the winter. And usually with no heat either. With frost on the inside of the unit windows. Okay, three isn't "usually", but out of all my travelling experiences with Northern, they have been the worst and the most memorable.

If the unbranded one was dark blue with a white stripe most of the way along the roof, then it would be 158786.
If the stagecoach one was there at the same time, it would be 158789 (If at different times, it could be either 786 or 789)

Yeah the unbranded one was dark blue with the white stripe; I looked it's number (158 786) up on Google images and that looks like the set, I also remember there being a 7 and an 8 in it's number somewhere so I'm certain that's the set. Glad that mystery is solved lol.

I think the Stagecoach unit was there first before the blue and white one as I seem to recall the blue/white one being around either in 2009 or 2010 (be dashed if I can remember to be honest!). I think it visited between 2 to 4 times, so I'd say 3 times.

So the Leeds power failure certainly caused some odd workings.

Why do people say that Yorkshire crews don't sign 156s. Just because we dont have booked work for them doesnt mean we don't sign them. The vast majority of Northern traincrew both sides of the sign 156s, a minority may have had them taken off their cards but no one at my depot has had them taken off and last time I checked I was in Yorkshire. The only real iffy one is 155s believe it or not, Hull and Sheffield dont sign them but do 156s

1641 Leeds to York which starts off at Blackpool is a 2 car bloody nightmare each night trust me and the diagrams which starts off on the 0609 and 0812 York to Blackpools which probably incorporate the 1641 at some point
