with some of the class 150/0 units being split so there class 150/2 acting centre cars can be transferred on, how is this affecting the class 150 / 153 combo on the Stourbridge to Dorridge line.
Can anyone tell me what units are operating the service today.
I don't know about today but last Wednesday it was 150002 and 153334 operating the Snow Hill 150+153 diagram. From reading through this thread it appears that 150002 is the usual partner in crime for this combo working.

What I don't get is why put 170s on the Snow Hill lines? just order the second batch of 172s!
Absolutely agreed: The twenty six additional 172 vehicles that LM have the option of ordering would be ample for working the four diagrams on the Chase line while still leaving enough additional units to provide extra capacity on the Snow Hill lines.
To my knowledge, the Chase line diagrams currently call for 1 x 170/5, 1 x 170/6 and 1 x 170/5+153, plus an additional peak time diagram that utilises a 170/5, sometimes with a 153 attached.

No a good idea taking 170s away from the Herefords, it's bad enough now at peak times with 4/5 car formations.
If LM have the slack in their 170 fleet that is suggested by the number of 170s visible at Tyseley at most times of the day (Though I don't know for sure), then I wonder if it would be possible to replace one of the 170/6s on the Hereford services with a pair of 170/5s, increasing the capacity of that diagram from three to four carriages.

That is not a good idea. The 170s acceleration is for cross country routes, not local stoppers. They will never keep to time. I did see a picture from May 2011, with a 3 car LM 170 on tests going through Dorridge. Although it is greater comfort, it won't be for timing and the 172s from the passenger video by simonthetrains, they seem to accelerate just like a 150.
Agreed: I reckon that 170s will prove to be poor time keepers on the regular stop Snow Hill lines, even if they are kept to the more limited stop services.
