Hi - does anyone know the whereabouts of 12814?
Is it part of a fixed rake presently, or designated as a spare?
Any help welcomed - many thanks.
It (12814) has been in set number 2 for almost all its life. Driving trailer 12802 briefly spent time in set number 2 when with TPE (possibly only for testing).

Not sure if it's MK5 related as it's pathed as a 168, but on the 2nd I've noticed some odd paths. Something running from Stourbridge to London, then back, but stopping at nearly every station even though they're both ECS moves?

If 12802 has seen so little use (possibly no passenger use?) presumably due to some defect, one wonders why it has not been sent back to CAF for repair, or has it simply been decided that it is surplus to requirements. In any event, if it is defective, surely it is (or was) still under warrentry. All seems a bit odd in these days of strict contracts.

I too have been pondering this.

There is a thread on the subject of 12802 here.

There is a lot of speculation to be had so best not on this thread.

12802 will be commissioned along with all other MK5a vehicles for Chiltern. This will be done once all sets are on lease and recommissioned. My understanding 12802 was removed to allow 12814 to be accepted and there was never a need to swap them back. It's quite a lengthy process as the DT holds all the networking equipment. Chiltern will have 12802 available after the other sets are done.

Thanks for this confirmation. I was wondering if perhaps 12802 had been taken off the set in order to commission 12814, so this does appear to be the case. 12802 is not defective after all, just spare !

12802 was in use with TPE in the correct set for a short time before it's windscreen got broken. It was replaced with the spare DT whilst under repair, it never worked for TPE again.

2 sets Mon - Friday
1 Saturday & Sunday

2 extra sets Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday only on Princess Risborough
& Gerrards Cross turns.

Extra sets will appear, when big Wembley events on.

Nothing extra in this timetable change.

Up to 10 a day planned from December one.

I saw a post from the Stourbridge Line User Group suggesting that more services will run to/from Stourbridge Junction from December https://www.facebook.com/1000720891...n-railways-confirmed-that-mo/961819762897652/ - though these may not be Mk5 of course

A friend travelled on one on Sunday on 1H55 from Bicester North where it was already overcrowded with first class declassified and left people behind at subsequent stops - though there was a Wembley event on. I do hope the weekend morning services will be sped up with extra 165/168s from Banbury/Bicester for the "local" stops nearer London . I currently avoid them wherever possible and use the very slow services from Bicester Village or go to Aylesbury, as there is a very good chance of standing from Bicester North

Interesting little thing today:

This service from Wembley LMD was formed of 2 165s and CH04 according to RTT. I would’ve thought it would be a set swap, but the two units both formed the 1619 to Wycombe and did not form and were not formed from anything other than this. Similar for the Mk5 - it usually arrives into London on 1H48 to form 1J47, but 1H48 was a different 3 car 165 and 1J47 was run by CH04, so it does all sorta seem to add up. 1J47 left Marylebone 14 late and was on time into Warwick Parkway with no stops skipped so defo not a 165.

This is pretty interesting if it did actually happen. Has a Mk5 ever coupled to a unit? I thought it wasn’t even possible tbh

However it all happened after, no, a loco hauled set can't work generally in service coupled to a 165.

165009/023 did an untimetabled 5H99 move from Wembley to Marylebone for 2W46
