It's a weak refurbishment because it hasn't installed laminated glass. Laminated glass was one safety feature identified that would have saved several lives in the Ufton Nervet crash as it would have prevented passengers being thrown from and dragged under the train.

Well in that one case, yes perhaps you could say its weak.

when are the class 67 and the Mk3 come in to use

The refurbs aren't needed 'till 2012 or so

But, from what I've heard on this fourm, Chiltern will be making more use of WSMR's mark 3 stock with 67s (which are already in use on a few services) from this month's timetable change. It's not clear whether Tony is refering to the power-door fitted / refurbed stock or any mark 3s. By referbished stock in 2012, do you mean we will see power-door mark 3s emerging by the end of London's olympic year, or possibly even at the begining of it (is there a May timetable change in 2012?)?

On a side note, what are Chiltern going to be using on the Bicester to Oxford shuttle? One of the Bubble Cars would be perfect for it, in fact they probably be perfect for a number of Thames Valley branch lines as well.

It will be a 165. Banbury depot will be covering the Oxford - Bicester Town service. The bubble is stabled at and worked by Aylesbury depot.

The version I'd heard is that there wouldn't be a May 2012 timetable change "because of the Olympics".

Why an event 99% within London means we cannot improve train services in the rest of the UK between December 2011 and December 2012 is beyond me though...

It's to do with advance bookings and reservations for the special Olympic through fares having to be available some time significantly further ahead of the normal 12 week deadline, at least I'm pretty sure that's what it's all about. Presumably once you've brought 'connections' into the equation it makes sense to have a longer than normal timetable period.

However, I hope we get all changes in the December 2011 to be robust ones. Its bad enough having to wait six months to rectify a badly scheduled service, but a whole year is going to cause a lot of problems

We were jumping through hoops about it too.... Friday is D Day for us as it is all offered back to the TOC/FOCs then.
