Does anyone know when the Chiltern 165 refresh is expected to start? Or have I missed something!
Oh ok. Interesting that they said it would be feb 25 around this time last yearDue to start December/January.
They’re also by far the shortest units to operate a regular commuter service in and out of London. They’re quite embarrassing.Very glad the Chiltern 165's are getting a refresh, they have to be some of the most knackered units I've seen in the London area bar the LU72ts and 92ts
Maybe it is just luck but all of the 165s that i have ridden on Chiltern recently have been in perfectly acceptable condition. They did not seem particularly knackered. They were a million times better condition than the appalling 1972 Stock and 1992 Stock trains.Very glad the Chiltern 165's are getting a refresh, they have to be some of the most knackered units I've seen in the London area bar the LU72ts and 92ts
Single two coach 171s on their own appear on London Bridge to Uckfield workings fairly often. Especially in the evenings. So it is not just Chiltern running two coach trains on London commuter routes. They’re also by far the shortest units to operate a regular commuter service in and out of London. They’re quite embarrassing.
Either I'm unlucky or you're just lucky but I have been on a few Chiltern 165's recently that seem to have had a few seat bottoms nicked off them and have had clapped out PIS speakers.Maybe it is just luck but all of the 165s that i have ridden on Chiltern recently have been in perfectly acceptable condition. New floors, seat covers, LED lighting and some work in the toilets. What is the refurb going to consist of?
Presumably they aren't planning to bring them up to the same standard as the refurbished 168s...
New floors, seat covers, LED lighting and some work in the toilets.
New above door grab poles where people have bent them by swinging on them, I wonder? A few are like that.
Also some 3rd seats visibly bent downwards.
I've not used a Chiltern 165 in about 15 years, last time I did they were in a decent condition, I'm guessing they haven't seen much TLC in the intervening years?
Apparently it's gone to Doncaster Wabtec , no ideas why though.I saw 165 033 heading north through Derby last week, part of the refurb programme or something else?
I swear they’re doing the refurb at ATC Bristol aren’t they?I saw 165 033 heading north through Derby last week, part of the refurb programme or something else?
Yes it is, including new tripcocks as well,The 165s, both Chiltern and GWR, are cycling through Doncaster for other work, not refurb related, I believe it's underframe work?
Ah yes that makes sense. How far through that are they?I can imagine it'll start once all of the 165s have cycled through Doncaster
It could be likely to encounter an issue, so they wish to keep it nearby / on not too strenuous work? Not refresh related but didn't think it needed its own thread. Is there something wrong with 165004? It's only been on the Aylesbury/Princes Risborough shuttles for nearly 3 weeks now, surely it can't be good for it to be stuck doing those lower speed journeys for that long?
