Children in Seats - OAP's standing...

I am glad I live in south wales, where people seem to be far more used to giving up seats on buses!

I have lost count of the number of people I have seen giving up a seat at the front as soon as an elderly person gets on. There is a blind gentleman who regurlarly travels with his wife from a nearby stop to me, and as soon as the couple are spotted at the bus stop, people move seats to allow them to sit together.

When I was at primary school the conductor made us sit 3 in a seat if the bus was crowded. Never see kids doing that nowadays though.

But, if you give up your seat anyway, nobody would be impolite, would they?
It has certainly never happened to me!

If somebody gets on with a wheelchair or pushchair and I am in one of the folding seats, I don't just sit there and wait until they ask me to move. If I did, I could understand that they would be less polite about it, as I am making their life difficult for the sake of it.

As I have stated previously, I will make room for those that look more needy than myself. However as has been stated in this thread it can't always be seen. So sometimes people do have to ask. Also I will not make my child stand on a bus. Simple as. It's not safe. And, yes, it may not be safe for others but MY child's safety comes first. Always. Train is a different matter as.usually we'll sit on.floor by doors which is fine.

You do seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about old people.

From my experience, older people are far less likely to cause me any problems - they don't shout abuse at people on the bus or play their tinny mobile phone music at full volume.

But it's only a fairly small number of younger people that do that - If I said that 'a large majority' of young people were rude and incosiderate then that would be a horrible generalisation and completely untrue.

I have no problem with oaps, I have problems with rude people whether they be 2, 13, 30 or 60.
