Judging by the utterly illiterate, intelligence-free specimens who appear to be posting on the site, I doubt very much whether it has produced much more fare evasion than was already happening. Hopefully what it will do is encourage the inspectors to simply move around more, which in turn will simply catch more people out, so perhaps it might even assist them in a roundabout way!

No, it would just be a lowly FB page that nobody cared about much. Instead, how many regular Metro users, even those who usually pay, are looking at this and weighing it up?

There is no excuse for putting crap like this in the so-called 'news', it benefits all the wrong people and simply serves to promote illegality. If during the riots somebody had set up a FB page detailing areas where it was safe to go looting, would that have been ok too? What's the difference?!

I suspect the person that set this up will find his group blocked and himself barred very soon.

How do I know this? Because a few years ago we set up a group, which also allowed people to comment. It spread and people started to argue amongst themselves. Me and my friend had got bored by then, and should have closed it (hindsight is a wonderful thing). We didn't and let it carry on totally unsupervised as neither of us had time to keep up with all the comments posted 24/7.

Facebook stepped in and deleted the group and chucked us both off FB for not keeping people in line (as if we had any way to do so). It seems FB isn't so bothered about the actual members that cause the abuse.

I can see from this group that there are some vicious arguments going on between users, so the more reports FB gets the more obvious it is that it will be closed down. FB won't care about the subject matter. It won't be to protect 'checkies' or anything.

In fact, FB is really not suited for such groups. All they want are companies to use it to advertise to people, and pay FB money, not for protest groups and the like. The fact so many survive is more down to the sheer size of the network and the speed at which FB will act.

Looks now like it is also developing a side line for people to pass on used daysaver tickets by saying where they have left them. That definitely sounds like promoting illegal activity, presuming tickets are non-transferable.

It sounds like they'd actually done quite a lot of thinking (though not a particularly pleasant sort of thinking) to come up with some quite unpleasant proposed actions.

I see it as a flash in the pan, and no doubt it will become old news very soon. It also doesn't help that their argument about the ticket prices is a weak one; for £4.20 (off peak) you can travel in all the Metro zones, on the Shields Ferry and the Sunderland - Newcastle line all day, which is fantastic value compared to other operators.

I've noticed an increase in the amount of tickets left at ticket machines in the past few weeks, but these have been quietly ripped up and put in the nearest bin. It is quite clear that the site is promoting illegal activity, and anyone who is stupid enough to try and get away with not buying a ticket will no doubt be looking at the £20 fine very quickly - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the number of fines has actually risen recently, so revenue will not be affected.

It was Sky Tyne and Wear, which is focussed on local news (fairly similar formula to STV local - hence why CheckyWatch is relevant to them. A fight against Facebook is not a local issue, and would not really involve the reader as much as some campaigns - this would be better suited to a national, likely a tabloid.

live in london so i can explain how the barriers work, if 2 people try to go through 1 the alarm will sound so you need to HIT-THE-DECK, plus the wide gate for prams etc can squeeze 5 through in 1 go if your quick enough as they are delayed from closing and most of the time after 7pm the gate is left open so you can just roll through, plus you can crawl underneath the gates too quite easily. any more questions give is a inbox

I don't generally like to judge people based on their use of the English language, I know a few people who come across as very unintelligent online, but are actually intelligent and lovely people.

We find ourselves in a sad state of affairs when the most powerful means of fighting back against (nonexistant) oppression is to use slang to the extreme coupled with appalling grammar...

Its pathetic and childish page to be honest, what are they going to gain by protesting? The fares are quite cheap compared to the likes of the London underground. In addition Newcastle is a fairly compact city and there is many other method's of transport aswell. The tyne and wear metro is expensive and the sometimes medicore service they provide on their ageing system. I wish these people would grow up!
