Changes to Kensington Olympia - Wandsworth Road train service

So i guess this maybe where the 171 from the east coastway is going. When Southern pull the ashford to brighton service. Instead it will go from Eastbourne to Ashford, and a 4 car 377 will do the fast pattern to eastbourne. Hense why a 171 is freed up.

Thank you, I've now found the service in TRUST but it shows 377436 as the booked traction for that service today, I thought 171s were being used as the service was extended to Ealing Broadway as well?

Its not extended to Ealing Broadway til May 2010 with a new diagram coming into affect.

The new times are now shown on the National Rail Enquiries timetable. From 24 May the service runs Monday to Friday, Wandsworth Road d 1048, Ealing Broadway a 1130, d 1207, Wandsworth Road a 1250.

There was a gauging trip to Ealing Broadway on Tuesday 9th March there is another on Friday 12th March due through Olympia at 1003, 1103 , 1209, 1407,and 1501 at Ealing Broadway 1031, 1047, 1130, 1151, 1428 and 1440.

Driver training starts next Monday with similar timings.

When the rebuilding of London Bridge starts in 2013, I heard that the Uckfield line service will not be able to find a platform at London Bridge (at least until the work is finished). Maybe diverting it up to Olympia, and maybe further north, is an option?

What about Victoria? As there used to be Uckfield- Viccy services.

Also there is the potential to run to Cannon Street or Charing Cross? via the through lines at London Bridge. Not sure about access between Southern lines and SouthEastern Lines.

The reason Uckfield services stopped using Victoria, and are very unlikely to return, is because the Central side of Vic is an enclosed station (due to the building on top) and there is nowhere for the DMU exhaust fumes to go. Platforms 18/19 have extractor hoods and were the only platforms used for the old 20x demus, but it would cost too much to reposition them for 17x dmmu exhaust pipes.

Crossing the layout to get to the less-enclosed eastern side of the station (used happily by diesel and steam-hauled railtours) would block too many paths in the throat when the central side must already be very close to capacity.

Look like this new services is not now going to happen because network rail have refused southern acess to ealing broadway, due to potential problems if the class 171.s fail and having to scramble another unit to rescue it.

what coouplers do the class 171's have as i thought they were the same as a class 170? which if they do couldn't a class 165 rescue it or is there some technicle reason if it can't?

The reason they became 171s is that they are no longer compatible with other Turbostars or 165/6/8 etc - they were retrofitted with Dellners to enable 377s to rescue them (and vice versa) in the SN area...

They have whatever a 377 has, because they can couple together in an emergencey.

Yes, there's signs with '171 SDO' written on them right along my local line.

Southern it seems have applied to run a late evening service between Clapham High Street & Ealing Broadway:

From proposed timings i have seen it is

Clapham High St dep: 20:17
Ealing Broadway Arr : 21:00

Ealing Broadway Dep: 21:12
Clapham High St Arr : 22:00

Doesnt get much turnback time at Ealing broadway does it as i thought i has to head to West ealing to reverse. Any updates on the current daytime service?

Just checked there is 2V00 2017 Clapham High Street - Ealing Broadway in the planned timetable 24/05/2010 - 10/12/2010 I but I have never seen it run
