I have been told and have read reports that the Kenssington OLympia - Wandsworth Road train service will be extended to run to/from Ealing Broadway from December and will be worked using a Southern trains class 171.

Timings dont seem to be available for the section between Ealing Broadway & OLympia but the return working from Wandsworth Road has been re-timed and will now depart at 16:12.

How long will the journey take from Ealing Broadway and Kensington Olympia?

Just wondering if it would be quicker, or at least more tolerable, to change at Ealing Broadway rather than straight to Paddington and take the underground.

Of course, if memory serves me correctly, Kensington Olympia isn't officially in London so a standard Oxford to London terminals may not be appropriate for that route.

I supoose it would take about 12-15 minutes from Ealing Broadway to Olympia

The 171 would be better off in use on Uckfield services since that line isn't electrified, nor will DafT electrify it.

Nor is part of the route to Ealing Broadway, and besides every time I go past Selhurst off peak there's a fair few 171s sat doing nothing anyway, I can't imagine borrowing one for a couple of hours to run a parliamentary will hurt too much.

Doing nothing? I suppose you think that when trains go to the depot, they sit there are do nothing, they dont have maintenance or get cleaned or anything :roll: And I suppose you havent been/seen rush hour going to Uckfield. Its bad to the point, Southern are proposing to shorten Ashford - Brighton into Ashford - Eastbourne, and 508/313 onwards to Brighton. That is all to save how many 171s?? 1. That sounds desperate to me

Well, obviously some of them are having maintenance checks etc.

Is Ealing to Wandsworth electrified? I know there are wires towards Paddington and the juice rail from north of Shepherd's Bush but is the junction between wired?

Also, if not, why are Southern apparently running the train at 16:12 when there is a peak DMU shortage? Didn't this used to run at about 10:30 or thereabouts?

This thread answers what that 1 171 will be doing now quite nicely ;)

Then why did it also say
Southern said:
In particular we would look at the possibility of adding carriages to the train arriving at London Bridge at 0744. In the evening peak south-bound we would consider the option of the 1707 from London Bridge to Uckfield.

When the rebuilding of London Bridge starts in 2013, I heard that the Uckfield line service will not be able to find a platform at London Bridge (at least until the work is finished). Maybe diverting it up to Olympia, and maybe further north, is an option?

I have receieved a email giving some further information about this service change:

''The latest issue of Branch Line News reports that “in the new timetable two pathways are shown for” an 11:56 Wandsworth Road – Kensington Olympia – Ealing Broadway train and 13:06 return, apparently operated by a class 170 dmu that runs light from and to Selhurst, and queries how the train would reverse at Ealing Broadway, speculating that it might use the up goods loop at West Ealing.''

I would guess this topic is triggered by this from early last year :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7826714.stm

It featured quite heavily on the BBC London TV news that day.

However, one more bit of gossip to throw into the fire regards the move of the US embassy. An awful lot of staff at the current embassy live in the West Ruislip area. Negotiations have been going on, apparently, about transport links to ...... Wandsworth Road.

These services, do they only run Monday to Friday or do they also run on the weekends as well?
Wouldn't mind ticking off that route even if it's just one way.

With regards to the former Ghost Bus, my dad (he gets around) drove it a few times, and no-one knew of it then either! He once got ticked off by the police (initially anyway) for being parked "illegally". It was only ued by a couple of hardy so-and-so's a week.

Why couldn't they just have kept the through route to Brighton? I know that there were over-crowding issues elsewhere, but for one single Voyager?

Ditto. If you do manage to bash it during the next few weeks if you could let us know of timings, tickets, route etc. that would be great. I wonder if they would bother with having an inspector on the train ?

I've been trying to get the timings and the route used but there's absolutely nothing entered into TRUST which concerns any movements to do with the train being used to present the services.

Still, it's becoming a bugbear and something that I do want to do, probably something in the next month or so...

Right fares:

£3.10 Off Peak Oyster Single
£5.10 Any time Day Single (Standard Class)
£8.60 Any Time Day Return (Standard Class)

National Rail still insists you have to change trains twice as there's no direct service,
