Changes to gatelines at London Victoria

But with the Victoria situation, surely there should be some way to tell the system that they’ve changed with a single tap?

I’ve seen journeys marked with a pink icon on TfL even though I used a normal gate - e.g changing from Waterloo mainline to underground

Yes you are correct but it isnt a major interchange point with other TOCs? I am not site quite what is has to do with anything. Why would someone going from say Reigate venture all the way out to Bromley South when I can easily change at Victoria?
What is your argument/point here I am still so confused?

If you check on National Rail Enquiries, it gives Bromley South-Beckenham Junction-East Croydon as one of the options from the Chatham direction

But I was more querying (originally) how many people actually make those journeys at all, and the need for a specific interchange solution not via the gatelines at Victoria

Surely most people interchanging between SE and Southern at Victoria will be outside the Oyster/contactless region anyway, so will have a paper ticket? I feel like any intra-London journeys would probaby be best to either use the trams, buses, tube or thameslink anyway.

My Mother actually does need to get to Margate/Ramsgate often so instead of spending too much on high speed, she uses Victoria to Change.
By The time I have gotten to East Croydon then To Beckenham then to Bromley, I would already be on the Train at Victoria?

Yes and No I assume. Even though now Oyster has been extended to Gatwick I see most just trust the basic paper ticket to make their journeys but some pay with contactless and Oyster. But for Families it is so much easier to get a paper travel card as it is only £2.00 for children

Where you have you inputed your journey from? I have put my from Reigate (on Monday) and it does say go to Victoria.

London Victoria station was not designed for the number of passengers using it today, and even now, with slightly fewer people travelling currently, Network Rail says that narrow gate lines and poor passenger flow around the station and on the platforms causes congestion at busy times.

That really is a bit off, blaming it on past designers. The gatelines shown as the problem were installed just a few years ago, doubtless down to a budget for the minimalist number supplied, and the retail units that fill in the spaces were - er - taken on as tenants and put there in the same recent times. Upper Crust and Pret didn't exist in the LBSCR era .

And what about the huge 800+ passenger boat trains in and out, often followed just a few minutes later by a relief, and which afternoon arrivals coincided with the outgoing peak? They don't have to handle those any more.

Burger King and Upper Crust have been shut presumably to allow for works, but no actual demolishment or any further buildings have gone up.

Yes a few of those at the SE barrier have been closed for the same reason. I dont know the schedule of the works but they dod mention itll take 6mths.

I was at Victoria yesterday and there's a pretty large and clear sign above 13 and 14 entrance saying if you're taking a Southern service from those platforms and using contactless you should enter via platform 12

That has been there for many years now, as many Southern services use Plat.13&14.

Does anyone know why the gateline works that were scheduled for Christmas 2022 never materialised?
Has a new date been proposed? Hopefully not delayed for another year!
