Just so everyone who posted knows I have now had a response from FCC, Company Prosecutor, Mark Smith.
Its says the following:-
"The use of carnet tickets is quite clear and it is imperative that the correct date of use should be completed in the relevant boxes. However it is fair to say that the date has been written on the reverse of the ticket.
Further to your letter I have had a chance to review the report again after having considered the points you have raised, I am writing to confirm that the file has been marked for no further action.
Should you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact me"
I have been thinking about whether to take the issues raised further, namely;
1. FCC and NR terms and conditions do not state Carnet tickets must only be validated on the front.
2. The paper on which the tickets are printed is very difficult to write on with ball point pens and impossible with fountain pens.
3. RPI's on FCC are not consistent in their approach if you validate on the back of the ticket. Most accept this as validation, just one (so far) officious RPI at Kings X did not.
4. Even though the byelaws (Clause 24(3)) state that an authorised person must provide identification when asked to do so, the RPI's at Kings X, and others on trains, state that they do not have to give their full name and will only tell you their first name and number.
Life is too short, maybe, but the problems I have encountered here should not be allowed to continue in FCC.
I have also noticed two other things since this all occurred. FCC never seem to man the gates at Kings X in the late afternoon rush hour? Why?
When I asked a ticket clerk at Hitchin to date my carnet for me, she picked up a felt tip pen from a pot on her desk, rather than use one of two ball point pens right next to her - clearly FCC know these tickets are a problem.
Any thoughts anyone?
