Thanks for that information. Great news for regular travellers but probably won’t help me. It will be the 1644 departure from Penzance that I will probably find most useful during my stay down there. I’ll perhaps use the 1740 from Penzance some days which will be Ok because it’s a Paddington train, but any later and it will be the very slow 1916 back to Plymouth.

In the other direction I was intending using the 0921 departure from Plymouth to Penzance which is the 0643 departure from Bristol. I probably could delay my departure from Plymouth untiil the 0945 on some days depending upon where I intend to travel to in Cornwall and onward connections by train or bus.

The 1644 ex Penzance is now booked for a 2 Car 158 (SX) but as there are only 2 for 2 diagrams the allocation on the day can be unreliable, yesterday for example, was 2x153s

The Cardiff to Bristol section not so much.

Well it's only 1 hour 20 at the moment.

It's clear we obviously have differing views, but I personally don't think a 150 with incredibly narrow 3+2 seating shouldn't be used between two major cities. In fairness to SWR examples they are a little wider.

Lines such as the Avonmouth Line and local services to Weston-super-Mare and Trowbridge are ideal for those units, not a 3 and a half hour journey. It's great that GWR have accommodated the coach numbers rather than a short-formed set, but still.

I have no further comments.
We don't want them on the Weston's thank you very much, we had them for long enough! Well keep our Turbos!

Those Turbos are wasted down there though!
But in two car form, they simply are not big enough for services in the peaks. The 1754 from Bristol towards is horrendous on a 2 car train. As are a lot of services. Since the Turbos have been introduced, it is far less common to have a train full and standing.

I was at Cardiff today and I'm sure there was a Taunton train made up of two single car 153s!

I have found that to be true, however there seems to be considerably less standing room in a Turbo so once the seats are full, the train fills up very quickly, compared to a 158 or a 150/2 where there is more space in the aisles to cram people in.

That said, the 17:49 from Bristol is usually standing room only between Bristol and Trowbridge (booked 3 car Turbo) - Before it was 2 x 150 (though regularly shortformed)
