Car turns on to live tracks

It has happened before and it will happen again. Two years ago a woman did it in Southport, she was appropriately dressed as a clown at the time.

Absolute idiot and should be banned from driving. You use your eyes first and foremost, not blindly following what a satnav tells you to do.

It also happened somewhere near Eastbourne (Bexhill ?).Driver was a 'senior NHS employee'..Says a lot does'nt it.

And I am wondering... what would the consequences have been had two of the metal parts of the car simultaneously touched the live rails? I am assuming that if one part touched the tyres prevented anything from happening, but suppose the metalwork was in touch with both live rails at once?

Totally agree. Too many people are either too lazy or don't have the brains to understand road signs or how to read a map.

If reading Ordnance Survey landranger maps was taught in schools again (as it was until the 1980s) then a lot of this could be avoided.
PS I was taught this as state comprehensive in 1980 when I was 11.

Was chatting to a passenger from Cuxton later on in the day who said the girl was very distressed and upset and worried about what was gonna happen. It was very very early in the morning and quite foggy so I guess these things may have been a factor.

Cant help but feel this is journalistic license by the Sun. The satelite would need to have been awfully lost to tell her to turn left there! Station Road Cuxton comes down the hill from the main road about 100 yards before the level crossing it takes a 90 degree right bend. Once over the crossing you have to turn 90 degrees behind the signal box to access a marina on the river medway. The road is a dead end.
It is most likely the road layout that has confused her. Its not exactly unknown for the road beyond the crossing to be obstructed by the considerate parking of several vans from a well known rail engineering firm either!

You can also find lots of signs like that in rural Spain. Some **** of the maps companies set as ordinary some roads that used for cattle, farm vehicles or footpaths.

I agree, it´s incredible how inept can be people when reading maps and most of the people don´t realize that the most important part of all is to find their current position!
