Why is the stabling point for the ac sleeper locos at Waverley called the Klondike? Is it official name or just one used by enthusiasts etc?

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

'Klondyke wall' seems to be an official name in local planning documents which has stuck over the years. Everything I've seen online (including here :) ) says it originates from the Klondike gold rush which was happening at the exact time as the building of the wall, circa 1897. See also the nearby Newcraighall Colliery which also adopted 'Klondyke Pit' as a nickname after opening in the very same year.

The official name is the South Loop Siding but the Klondyke name seemed to really take off around the time the new platforms were being built, with platform 10 being referred to as the "Klondyke platform" until they renumbered everything. I'd suggest the name is at least semi-official now.

No idea, always known it as the klondyke but before P10 was there it was the South loop, its sometimes referred to as the South Loop siding too.

Its been known as the klondyke for a long time before the new P10 was even an architects drawing.

I've just seen on the local gen group that they might be heading back to Dollands Moor due to a paperwork issue...no idea if that info is reliable.

Ought to be at Wembley by now but the last report of them is at Kensington Olympia, stopped at a signal around 4pm.

Not sure about returning to D Moor, but 6Q72 certainly appears to be sat at Kensington Olympia on the signalling diagrams and has been for the last hour plus.

Interesting that 1S26 will overtake it tonight if the move goes ahead, also a bad night to move them, some real nasty weather up in Scotland over the next 48-72 hours.

1S26 was due to overtake at Crewe whilst the stock is sat in P6 in the early hours, however at this rate with the move still sat at Kenny O and apparent issues with the paperwork that may be in doubt. Departure from Wembley was 23:06 however, so still time to resolve matters.

Magic box reported to say it’s going back due to route clearance issues... Can’t see them doing a run-round there in the peak so presume it’s gonna have to sit it out a bit longer.

Thanks for the info.

Is there not anywhere closer to Kensington Olympia it could be stabled whilst the issues were sorted - Wembley for example...? (or anywhere else for that matter between Kenny O and the Channel Tunnel??)

I think there's some 2+2=5. Magic box only tells us what someone has put in. There's a lot more to the story. It appears it's fine.

Doesn't have to go on to WEFOC to get to Polmadie.

It was supposed to be recessing there and having a loco change wasn't it? The NRAP was issued last week but I only looked at the Scottish bits...

Sorry, I forget not everyone speaks the lingo... The 'Network Rail Assurance Panel Certificate of Compatibility' lists the routes for which an item of rolling stock has been assessed, states whether or not it is cleared to run over those routes and lists any restrictions.

So the certificate may state that Mk5 coaches of sub types X, Y and Z are cleared to run from A to C via B under tare test conditions, as empty stock and in service; they may run from C to F but not via E under tare test conditions or as empty stock only; they must run at a maximum speed of 20mph over bridge 123 between A and B; they are prohibited from using bay platform 3 at C and are prohibited from running between C and F with the air suspension deflated. Repeat for every possible route you may ever wish to run the rolling stock over...

Eventually the data in the certificate makes it into the Route Clearance tables in the Sectional Appendix but the NRAP certificate will be reissued whenever rolling stock is assessed for a new route or a new restriction is applied.

Yes, I understand there were some hasty phone calls this afternoon and an updated certificate/RT3973 issued...

I'm surprised that the train was running under a "Q" headcode rather than an "X" headcode which is usually the norm for a train with gauging restrictions?
