Will depend on what the situation is when they get there in c.3 hours. Disruption could mean stock out of place / delays rather than line totally closed.

It's a big fire though so may not be sorted by 6am, in which case 1M11/1M16 would logically have to terminate short somewhere and onward travel arranged.

There's also the issue that at least one set of stock and staff is in the wrong place for Fri night's service. Currently 3 will be south and only one north.

I would presume that passengers on 1M16 were either provided with road transport for the rest of the journey, or told to continue their journey via alternative routes (e.g. Manchester, Sheffield then EMT, or Birmingham then Chiltern).

In the past, when the Caledonian Sleepers have been unable to run because of unforeseen circumstances such as this, they have usually provided replacement road coaches for seated passengers, with berth passengers being offered a choice of road transport or staying in a hotel and then travelling on daytime trains (or maybe flying if they had an urgent business appointment).

Add to that list Settle-Carlisle (Mark 3s have certainly been via the S&C in the past, and I believe the Sleepers have very occasionally been sent that way).

Same issue with drivers/guards signing that route and lack of overheads for 90/92s irrespective of whether the Mk3s would fit.

Due, I assume, to engineering work, there is no down Fort William sleeper on Friday night (22nd) or up from Fort William on Sunday (24th) with ECS moves to/from Polmaide instead

Loadings in recent months indicate Aberdeen doesn't need the extra capacity, so you'd be burning fuel, wear and tear, other increased costs etc. to haul empty coaches to Aberdeen and back for no extra revenue (admittedly they're going to Polmadie and back but that's shorter...)

Also, a 73/9 can cope with a Load 8 (has done a few times with a 92/90 strapped on too), however it's probably pushing what they can deal with and keep to timings etc. So again, doesn't make sense to run with 8 coaches when only 4/5 needed.

I think the Aberdeen platforms are long enough, but the length of some intermediary stations' platforms may also be a factor.

A question about this: the sets are timed for 80mph, is it possible for them to be authorised to run at 110 when running very late?

Max speed for sleeper is 100mph as mk2's are only permitted to run at 100 and thats if theres a 90 on the front.

My luck with Cally Sleeper hasn't been the greatest this month, I'm expecting 92014 to be on the front of the lowlander tonight!

Options for me to get to Edinburgh in the morning, depending if on time I can get a Shotts stopper, or have a reasonable +25 to cross to Queen Street for a 170 *Ponders*

Passengers for Edinburgh have been told to change at Motherwell for a 380 towards Edinburgh via Carstairs.

92014 again, will be cleared for a thousand miles at this rate as I had it Thursday morning from Edinburgh on the Highlander

Just refreshed on RTT and it went to 53L, would that just be based on when it should have passed the next timing point or is it possible that it's going to reverse back to Carlisle and terminate there?

Looks like 1M21 0426 Glasgow Euston was the train involved. According to the track diagrams it is standing just north of Abington. There appears to be a 1Z99 DRS class 57 which is now just behind 1S26 on its way presumably to rescue 1M21. 1S26 is at a stand at Abington.

EDIT: 1S26 OTM. 1Z99 in Abington Down Loop.

Further EDIT: 1M21 OTM under own power. Looks like 1Z99 will not be required.

Despite a few reservation (no pun intended) about the Highlander service the trip passed off without much incident. As a first time sleeper experience I did find sleeping a little off-putting as the train snaked its way north from Euston. If only all lines were built straight...:roll:

We were fortunate with the travel incidents that affected other nights; we travelled out on Wednesday and back on Friday night. The class 90 proved to be as bumpy as ever, however 73970 performed faultlessly onward to Fort William and back.

9526 isn't blue grey though... that's Swallow livery... and one like that was on there in July last year.
