I've made 2 complaints to CS now, one delay repay claim and one about them not having the breakfast I pre-ordered in stock. No reply after 2 months! I should probably have given them a ring about that before now...

Some of the delays have been a bit epic. I was also very unimpressed with the way they treated seated passengers on late arrival in London, not so much as an apology or an explanation for the delay.

Looks like today's lowland sleeper (1M11) has failed just north of Ledburn Junction .. With the associated disruption to the wcml fasts..

rather interesting discussion. I am amazed that the Caledonian is surviving at all with most of Europe ditching sleepers. Berlin-Munich is going in December. Berlin-Paris was somewhat rescued by the Russians.
And compared to that Scotland invests in new rolling-stock!
I am jealous :)

When I arrived back in Inverness on Wednesday the sleeper looked to be pretty busy for that night's journey south. I hear the Fort William service is particularly busy also but it's all relative.

When the new 73s are added into the equation it will be a heady brew if the 92s aren't sorted by then.

Why? Do you know something about the GBRf 73/9's that we don't? The 67's haven't exactly had a spotless reliability record in Scotland of late....

Going back to the APs formerly valid on the Sleeper from Fort William I have now had a reply from Scotrail. They 'advise me' that previously First had both the Sleeper and daytime services and now that these are operated by different companies they cannot offer combined travel. Presumably I must be imaging the hundreds of flows where it's possible to use an AP across multiple companies

One positive, it's taken them so long to reply that apparently I'm entitled to a £5 RTV so it's not all doom and gloom

I might try Transport Scotland next.

Good luck with Transport Scotland. They seem as useless as CS themselves and fail to understand what the Local Scottish Easements are.

It's not just a case of ScotRail saying, "That's a good idea, let's do it." though, is it? CS have to agree, probably Transport Scotland, it has to be set up with RSP and all the rest of the shenanigans. If demand is low it's probably not worth the effort to be fair.

From what CS have told me they'd be happy to do it and it's Scotrail who don't want to. I'm not sure why Transport Scotland would need to grant permission for such a fare as APs are unregulated?

You clearly haven't worked with TS. They don't need to grant permission (probably, without looking at the Franchise Agreements I can't be certain), but you'd be foolish not to get their agreement. They can be very touchy.

Other than that without knowing what terms CS offered ScotRail it's hard to say who's really at fault. What CS are happy to do may actually be a very good deal for them and a crap one for SR.

I prefer not to make judgements without more facts.

Well I'm continuing my probing so we'll have to wait and see what comes out of TS in reply :)

CS could partly solve this problem tomorrow. They just add the CAL SLEEPER SEAT tickets for Edinburgh / Glasgow / Dalmuir / Dumbarton Central - West Highlands destinations Advances. There is no issue with this because the quota will only sell what is left over from through bookings anyway, and there is no walk-up unreserved custom to worry about as the train is marked Reservations Compulsory in the timetable. If they do sort a CAL SLEEPER&SCOTRAIL product out they could use that to expand the market, for example by selling tickets such as Kingussie to Kyle of Lochalsh, or Inverurie to Crewe. The most practical example is still the Mallaig - Banavie to Glasgow tickets though on the evening train.

Also, just to point out from earlier, there are some Edinbrugh to Mallaig AP SCOTRAIL ONLY tickets.

Ref my much earlier post 142 - at the time of Ainsworth74's original case opening in this thread - I have continuing concerns over how Abellio's management of Scotrail customer service is panning out. My perception, and I don't know anything other than what I know as a user, is that the team's quickly become overstretched and starved of resource. If I hadn't threatened them with Transport Focus in my case, or they hadn't paid proper attention in response, I too would've referred them to Transport Scotland as a next step.

Mind you, before we hark back to the good old days too much, in the era of First I emailed them to compliment a member of staff somewhere or other and they took so long to respond that, like they did with Ainsworth in different circumstances, they sent me a £5 voucher to compensate for the delay in their reply. So it really does pay to be nice it seems!

Returning entirely to topic, I'd also reiterate that I find Caledonian Sleeper's customer service to be extremely good by comparison - swift, personal and focused.

The sleeper arrived on time in Glasgow on Sat 22 behind a scruffy 90048. On Sat eve, another 90, I think 90036 in DBS red, was at Polmadie with sleeping cars. What's happened to the 92's?

It looked as though the southbound Glasgow portion seating coach and lounge car was out of action on last Friday night /Saturday mornings working (with 87002 at the front). Can anyone confirm this?

Seating car was OOS - all pax given a bed for the night instead.

Lounge car was available as normal.

An unexpected bonus for the pax then.

If the loco to take the Edinburgh section failed yesterday then did they just bus the passengers from Carstairs or did they take the whole train to Glasgow (and which platform would it fit??)

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Which platforms in Glasgow will the full 16 carriages and LOCO fit. I was struggling to find platform lengths when I looked online

I believe Platforms 9 and 10 can also accommodate long trains, in addition to Platforms 1 and 2.

The Glasgow portion normally departs from these platforms for the southbound working.

Also, in the days before Pendolinos, the loco hauled services would also depart from Platform 9 too.

Platform 11 was what it was routed into.
Looking onto google maps and OpenStreetMap, this has a very long platform, strechting almost one third over the river Clyde. However, normally this final bit is not for public use due to no trains being that long, and the very narrow nature.
I don't know if people actually were allowed to alight here, maybe they just did this to be safe in case people /did/.
