Northern seem to have added a number of revenue protection staff in the mornings along the Calder Valley line over the last few weeks. I think the new people work for a private security company, rather than Northern, although some of them seem able to sell tickets.
Todmorden has gone from a single chap (and cat) in the ticket office, first of all to having 2 revenue staff in the tunnel, and now to 3 in the tunnel and 2 more on the carpark entrance.
Hebden Bridge also seems to have several in attendance every morning, as does Sowerby Bridge.
I'll be vague as I don't want to get anyone in to trouble, but I have good reason to believe that some of these people are being paid to travel quite considerable distances to and from work each day.
Before the extra people on the platforms appeared, I'd noticed that there were increasing number of staff in Northern uniform selling tickets on the train.
Does anyone know if this is a "Metro" initiative or a Northern one, and how the numbers stack up regarding extra ticket sales vs staff costs?
