I don't eat much cake, or other sugary stuff, but I have happy memories of Lardy cake (made in the Chilterns where I lived in the 1960s.)

Like a sweet white loaf, but with lots of fat (lard) in it so that the outside was coated with caramel/toffee from the frazzled sugar. Haven't seen it anywhere since.

I like Tiffin too, is that a cake? I also used to like a thing they sold in Shauls Bakery in my home town called Russian Slice, it was all kinds of leftover stuff mixed together. Marvellous.

Aside from cream doughnuts, I usually go for Victoria Sponge & chocolate & cream cake. They're the only ones that really appeal to me.

I love doughnuts myself, but more filled doughnuts as opposed to the classic American 'Homer Simpson'ringed doughnut with sprinkes.

Vanilla (custard), chocolate and banana being particular favourites of mine!

Although I must say I never eat them before bed, leads to chronic indigestion!!

I love all cakes with sole exception of carrot cake. A particular favourite is Polish Air Force cake (Battenberg) and there's one I haven't seen for years, perhaps someone can help, it's what I called cauliflower cake. I don't know if there's a proper name but it's made from green marzipan leaves wih a white creamy stuff inside. Does anyone recognise that description?

No it's not that. I've managed to find a picture of one and it is in fact called cauliflower cake, this one looks handmade. The ones I remember looked more mass produced, just the way I like it, and the filling was that sweet, sickly, synthetic cream (probably a petroleum by-product or waste from nuclear reactors) that I prefer to real or butter cream..

I'm not sure I have a favourite as such - I have a bit of a sweet tooth so I'll try most things

A couple of my colleagues at work will occasionally bake and bring the results in for the rest of us. Before Christmas, one of my colleagues brought in a tin of homemade Christmas cake along with another tin of lemon drizzle cake and sticky ginger cake - all absolutely delicious!

I have had Russian Slice too - I think it is/was available from a bakery round by us, though I haven't had any for a little while
