Wales (sometimes in England), thanks for replying!
There should be some more runs during daytime next week Monday Thursday to Machynlleth.
Many thanks for this! Return of the daytime tests ey? I can't find them on Realtime Trains - I'm guessing the schedules haven't gone out yet and you know because of your role?
Am I right, or am I missing something in the other sense?

You've ridden on 61 of the 70 that have been in service? "Only" 54 for me :p

70/77 in service then

All in service by Christmas? Roughly one new unit a week.
No chance of that. The last ones aren't expected for several months. Only reason so many newer ones are even out is that they are filling in because so many of the regular fleet are out of service.

No you are correct, I just didn't see your other post before I hit reply!

197028 just back into service after its long weekend out of service (worryingly) so soon after its return from Holyhead. Currently on 1V32 05:54 Crewe to Milford Haven throughout.

Came off Chester depot about 04:30 this morning.

Class 197's not in passenger service today are: List of 30 units
If I read that right, this means that 46 class 197s were out earning revenue for TfW yesterday (Monday 27th October 2025) - can't remember if anyone has posted the number of units that have booked work on a weekday to see whether 46 units is more or less than that.

It was posted upthread a while ago.
51 units rings a bell but may have increased since.

Some interesting nuggets regarding the 197s in the Green Signals interview with James Price, CEO of TfW:
  • A few of the 197s are suffering with cracks around what James describes as the anti roll bars, which he likens to what happened with the IETs. The good news is that it is not currently affecting service delivery and a fix has been agreed.
  • TfW and CAF have moved from an adversarial relationship to more of a partnership. TfW is now satisfied with the service being received from CAF.
  • There are lessons to be learned about reading and understanding what is actually in the contracts with rolling stock manufacturers, rather than relying on the interpretation of consultants or engineers.

Sorry if this has already been posted, this thread moves fast!

More new trains suffering with cracking? At this point they might as well start making them out of lego

And as for the 3rd point, I am by no means a businessman or business owner, but I would guess that the reading and understanding of contracts before signing them off is pretty basic stuff.

At least lego would be easy to repair with its "modular design" and "pre-trained" staff :D

Thanks for the confirmation.

197032 and 197039 should also be there and possibly 197005 if you viewed the yard later than 15.37 after its return from the Barton route learning trips.

Anyone know what worked the 3Q81 - 3Q84 test runs last night please?

An mk4 set has been sat in Stockport since Friday Morning. Will this be out for a while because lots of services yesterday were short formed and extremely busy even for a Saturday. I couldn’t get on my train as people were stood down the middle and sat on the floor at doors and that was with 4 cars.

I think it moved very slowly from Platform 1 to Platform 0. It was still in Stockport around 11am today.

There should be some more runs during daytime next week Monday Thursday to Machynlleth.
I've been informed of the following two schedules:

3C10 0420 Shrewsbury Abbey Frgte Cs to Machynlleth Carr. Sdgs

Departing on Monday 10th November 2025

and

3C11 0423 Machynlleth Carr. Sdgs to Holyhead Car. M.D.

Departing on Friday 14th November 2025

I take it that whatever's happening in-between those hasn't yet gone onto the system?

What speed is it likely to go? Why so slowly?
Normally 20mph max, 5mph over points and there's quite a few of those on this move. It's on a wheel skate

There's large amounts of 197s stopped too at the moment, 14 was the total last night. Cambrian sets just about keep the show on the road but short forms are really mounting.

The 231s will free up a few 197s but will that be even close to enough for what will be needed if they are to start taking over more lines?
