Bombardier win contract to refurbish trains

BRITISH rolling stock leasing company Eversholt Rail has awarded Bombardier a two-year contract worth more than £30m to overhaul the fleet of 40 class 365 EMUs used by First Capital Connect.

The work will be carried out at Bombardier's Ilford depot in Essex and the first train is due to be completed early next year. Eversholt had originally placed the contract with Railcare, but the work was retendered after Railcare entered administration in July 2013.

The contract covers heavy maintenance of underfloor equipment, refreshed interiors, and upgrading of passenger information systems. Additional work will be carried out in spring 2014 to bring the trains in line with the latest accessibility standards, including the installation of two wheelchair bays and wheelchair-accessible toilets.

The dual-voltage four-car trains were built in 1994-1995 and are used on outer suburban services from London King's Cross to Peterborough, Cambridge, and King's Lynn.

I imagine we'll see a number of similar stories over the next few years but it's good the refurbishments aren't all being left until 2017.

This doesn't sound like good news for the former Railcare operation since it was rescued by Knorr-Bremse.

Well, i don't think they are based at Ilford are they? This is FCC not GA.

Well, i don't think they are based at Ilford are they? This is FCC not GA.

Obviously must be, considering they shut down their refurbishment business up at Derby a few years ago (someone must have woken up then!) - Has Ilford had any work lately too?

Good to see the 365s are getting their refurb: but with the PIS upgrade, does this mean the end of the "(B)Lunden King's Cross" announcement?
