Hi All,

Blyton Road just north of Gainsborough is closed at the railway bridge where local gen says a truck carrying a forklift hit it a few weeks ago.

I haven’t seen anything about the railway being closed but the road is apparently closed for more weeks if not months.

Seems strange that the road is closed for so long.

If I've got the right location, I read about this recently but I can't now track down where.

IIRC temporary heavy duty props have been put in place below the bridge deck, allowing the line to stay open but blocking the road. The timescale for a permanent repair is indeed several weeks.

Engineers began emergency work to repair a damaged railway bridge on Saturday, 9 March, which has caused the A159 between Morton and Blyton, near Gainsborough, to close.

The road has been closed since mid-February following the underside of the bridge being struck by a vehicle, causing structural damage.

Network Rail teams installed temporary heavy-duty props which allowed the railway line above to remain open. It was being used as a major freight diversion due to planned work in the Keadby area.

Plans have been agreed to repair the damage to the bridge, however work can only be carried out when no trains are running. The repairs were carried out on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, with some follow up work carried out throughout the remainder of this week.

The road is scheduled to reopen on Saturday 16 March.

It was dated a week ago so I don't know whether that reopening date was met. If so it was a relatively quick repair.

No - I heard it was now June (through local social media so no idea if that’s right). It was still closed on Saturday.
