I agree with you about a dynamic loop and a possible extension towards central Blackpool. But a 9 car length 4 platform station is just fantasy with the other much faster route to Blackpool currently being electrified. A half hourly shuttle to Preston/ Colne looks the most likely future for this line
A railway connecting a
very densely populated area, and one of the most deprived wards in GB (Bloomfield) and would inject a huge investment, and benefit to that area. Tourism, and employment - easy commuting.
The extra 1/2 hourly train should go to Manchester.
IMO I am not an expert in comparing passenger numbers, but when comparing the passenger numbers with a City like Preston, Blackpool's numbers seem so much less.
Preston is a major hub with direct services, and although smaller population than Blackpool, has a fair population outside the City. ++
Blackpool has a major tourist industry. ++
I feel the local population in Blackpool do not use the railway nearly as much as Preston.
Some local businesses and individuals go by road and use Preston station instead.
Anyone used BPN station after 11pm?
Outside lights off, and you wait
outside the station until 3 minutes before departure, when they open a small roller shutter door direct onto the platform. A very unpleasant experience.
