Plenty of activity on the line today between Chorley and Lostock orange army work sites everywhere, bridge gone near Horwich all be it a Farm bridge but a new one being lowered this evening, what looks like mast foundations being done around Blackrod and more work to Station Road bridge with road/rail equipment at line level, Chorley Road/Westhoughton Road in Adlington lots of stuff going on there rather big bridge that lol

I am still in disbelief that its actually happening. Thank you for keeping us informed.
Think Joseph mentioned earlier that the idea would be for the OLE teams would start from Euxton Junction and work back as that stretch is easiest as the bridges are in the process of being done, so that seems the plan, don't think were far off mast bases and or actual masts on some parts between Lostock and Euxton Jct, its cracking to see.

Hopefully NR have been multi tasking installing bases, Stanchions, Bridge lowering / removal and other projects all at the same time over the length of route.
Was just thinking about that, I don't know how they manage it all tbh its mad
, it's like a merry dance lol, still a bit to do over on the Manc/Liverpool line on the OHLE but I guess the work gangs on ours at the mo are the prep ones and once all this is done the next team along move into the area.I was wondering if the electrification team could get back on schedule by working on bases and masts whilst the bridge team does their work instead of waiting.

Noted yesterday that mast bases were in place between Salford Central and Salford Crescent. As I am new to this thread I assume that this old news.

Has anymore work been going on to between Lostock junction and Euxton Junction this weekend? Real Time Trains indicates a blockade is in place.
Yes plenty going on at weekends, Westhoughton Road in Adlington is seeing quite a lot as is the prep work at Station Road in Horwich, I was talking to one of the Carillion guys who said that Station Road will be ready for demolition in the next week or so, Westhoughton Road in Adlington was demolished last week I think so the new deck could possibly be going in this weekend, al be going for a drive round tomorrow to have a look, Storey Rail have replaced a farm bridge just up the line towards Bolton aswell.

Sorry to be a bit pedantic but we might as well be accurate. I think you mean the Chorley Road bridge on the A673 just before its junction with the A6 (Westhoughton Road). Westhoughton Rd doesn't cross the Bolton to Chorley rail route. The dual carriageway bridge on Westhoughton Rd just before you arrive in lower Adlington from Chorley was the old line via Adlington (White Bear) to Red Rock, Boars Head Jc and Wigan NW. (Wigan to Blackburn route)
When they first closed the Chorley Rd. and Rawlinson Lane bridges 3-4 weeks ago they put traffic lights in at the bottom of Railway Rd (onto the A6, next to Adlington station) and ended up with traffic queues stretching a mile up the A6 in the rush hour, due to the A673 closure. They've retimed them now and people have started using alternative routes where feasible as well.
yeah sorry that one at Skew Bridge, got confused with the road names doh.When the closure happened it did cause untold traffic issues but it seems to have calmed down now its been sorted into some sort of order...

Just nipped down to Blackrod station, there's platform lengthening going on both sides, Station Road bridge is ready for demolition as the guy I spoke to last week said it would be, all utilities moved and gone, top layer of road gone and concrete bases for said massive crane ready, altho looking to RTT it seems the next full possession is weekend of 21st March and then every weekend after well into April, reason I say that is that they have left a journey on from Blackpool to Man Vic at 23.30 ish on Saturdays the next few weekends, on a full that's obvs a bus.

Also I am not traveling to the UK until tomorrow and Monday wife is not taking me to the airport but I am getting the train - so I will start giving updates as best as I can when I am home from the USA which is usually avery 4-5 weeks

I made a preliminary foray on a recent Saturday, with the particular aim of making a lifetime first visit to Salford Central. When I got to Bolton I discovered SC was closed and all trains to Man Vic were going round via Ordsall Lane Junction! A debut rather like this:

Travelling southeast from Lostock Junction took me back a year and more on the Liverpool-Manchester/Wigan lines, with nothing at all in some places, and lots going on in others.
I'm looking forward to contributing to this thread. I have enjoyed myself no end on the Liverpool-Manchester lines and will be pleased to do my bit here.
On the L-M lines I have had the good fortune to contribute to a flickr album which just growed and growed, I'll be pleased to do similar here, but I need to know if such a thing exists. I'd hate to start by treading on toes.
Finally, what I can't do. Geography means I'll only be able to cover Wigan-Lostock Jct-Manchester with any regularity.

Indeed you do! It's good to have contributions from various angles with those at the 'coal face' educating and informing us mere observers. Dave's links to his combined album showing the photos and videos from the kind contributers have been fantastic in allowing the masses to see for themselves the progress and achievements on the L+M and I look forward to something similar happening in this thread.
Were in the process of setting it up so it shouldn't be long, hoping to turn this thread into the daily must read as the Liverpool/Manchester one now work will be clearly moving across to Bolton and the like lots to reports on, loads of photo's to take, and with the lads actually working on the project i'm sure it'll be great

And even though I live in the USA I come home frequently so I will cover Preston-Blackpool. You are welcome to start an album and I will send all photos to you that I have so far. It is all bridge rebuilding work of course at moment.
So we just need someone to do Euxton Jct - Lostock Jct and we are probably good. Dont worry about stepping on my toes!! - all is a good collaborative effort - and will be wonderful for the archives for our grand children etc.
I've literally just been out down to Blackrod and spoke to some of the Carillion guys there who said the bridge is due for demolition this weekend but they had found some unknown live cables so Electricity Northwest were out tomorrow to try and sort them out so its 50/50 at present.
Hot footed it off to Horwich Parkway and as Joseph said there's mast bases appearing, witnessed about 8 Orangemen digging and doing stuff, froze mi butt off on the platform its a howling gale at the mo, got a few photos, as soon as LDECRexile gets the album sorted were off

Busy weekend in store for the bridges on the route in Horwich and Chorley, at the moment 2 Baldwins 400 Cranes are sited at Adlington ready about to start replacing the deck at Skew Bridge with Carillion Orangemen everywhere its one massive bridge that cut out of the land, at Station Road in Horwich another Baldwins 500 crane is sited and rigged ready to replace that bridge once demolition starts at 07.00 Sat morning due to the closeness of properties at midnight all was quiet as I got some photos ready for posting later, I noticed that Network Rail had time lapse webcams recording stuff on poles, they seem to be into that sort of thing at the moment, good though to watch, those cranes are huge with about another 5 artics carrying ballast blocks.
There's no doubt that once these's are done I bet the mast and base teams wont be far behind from Euxton towards Lostock first, NR does seem to be on time doing this phase, things do seem to be moving rather fast now what with bases being put in at various work sites along the track aswell.
