I did end up buying a few christmas presents on Amazon since I have complimentary Prime membership and therefore get next day delivery for free. There wasn't that many extraordinary deals, as always you have to do a little bit of research.
Or two days before 'credit card bill Wednesday'

Short answer for me is that "Black Friday" scares me. I am not being a drama-rama. I feel it brings out the "savage" in some people. Al la, Lord of the Flies. What happened to the previous generation who used to save up, whether to buy a television, or a 3 piece suite? Now it is credit cards, me me, I want, and the sheep mentality.

There were reports as far back as the 1960s reporting on housewives fighting over clothing in the post-Christmas Sales, so it's hardly new to this generation. As for "bringing out the savage" - the number and scale of incidents at these sales is vastly overblown by the media, just like everything else.
I just had a browse online, spotted something Mrs Richw has wanted for ages reduced from £120 to £55 on Amazon so she can have it for Christmas now.

That's the thing. If you want to buy something and see it cheaper on Black Friday (and could wait to see if it was discounted) then it's great, but buying something you'd never thought about buying is mad.
Last year, I wanted to buy the new iMac 5K. I hoped Apple or John Lewis would do a deal, and indeed John Lewis did. Only £100 off, but every little helps and all that.
I was going to buy the product anyway.
I did look around yesterday for any amazing deals, but I am not going to buy some gadget that's half price when I have no want or need for it. Especially not some el-cheapo Vestel-made TV with a ropey panel that has been made especially for the event to be sold at £200 down from a fictitious suggested retail price of £20000!
I wonder if the CO-OP were still doing their buy two packets of £1.29 each own branded Corn Flakes for £3 on Black Friday. They were last Monday. That's an increase of 11p per item and you don't even get any additional packaging!
I was considering getting a tablet for travelling so I don't have to carry my laptop so much.
A work colleague recommended the Tesco Hulu 2. It was romured version 3 would come out in the autumn. So I thought I'd wait. I also wasn't sure about whether to get a 4g enabled tablet from a another manufacturer.
Then the other day I heard there was a falling out between makers of Hulu and Tesco, so the whole range was scraped, including those already made not being sold now. Version 2 cost £99 and now lists on Amazon Marketplace for £199. Along comes Black Friday and I'm thinking, wonder if there are any deals.
So I research tablets. I find 4g ones are not worth the additional cost. I can use my phone as a WiFi hotshot or tether it.
I do end up buying a more expensive Samaung Ģalaxy Tab S2. I rrad reviews and it was good. John Lewis had £100 off so I got it for £300. That was £11 cheaper than Amazon. I would not have paid £400 for it. I would have got something else. So in this case Black Friday enabled me to get something better.
A friend rang me last night for advice as they were getting a new Macbook. There one is old and slow now. Still runing Snown Leopard. I then pointed out John Lewis might be cheaper and they are by £100. They may still go to Apple if it turns out they need something not offered by going to John Lewis but otherwise they will save.
I need to get a Christmas present so I checked Lakeland and it wasn't on offer so I will but it anyway as it's a Christmas present and a you can only have this if it's discounted. I need a new kettle. It makes sense to buy it this weekend. I will do that tomorrow.
Last year I considered getting Chromecast discounted but decided I didn't have enough uses for it yet. A lot of apps don't support it. Shame it can't share any app regardless. Had it done so I'd have bought it.
Those are in my opinion sensible reasons for using Black Friday. Buying some random item is not. Saying that I buy old records, guild books, maps and books with engraved pictures in them. I buy purely as I come across them so it is random to a degree. If they are cheap im morr lokely to buy them. Do I really need them? It's an obsession / hobby. I read about people in Record Collector with 10,000 LPs. I'm not there.... yet.

Back Friday is the equivalent of our Boxing Day Sales, it comes the day after Thanksgiving, which of course is the 'big' day in the U.S. All it is in the UK are the stores just trying to make us buy what we don't want ! The next thing of course is that the UK will also somehow have Thanksgiving day too !
As I think GB says, its not a patch on the what they do in the USA, a pale imitation !
All those that bought those 'cheap' / 'special buy' TV;s that we saw on TV last year.....bet some wish they hadn't now, many simply said "HD Ready" and I expect quite a few cannot get all the current channels !
So why can they not get all the current channels? What's different about their TVs? I thought whether you'd get HD or all the channels was based on your available digital terrestrial reception and whether your TV supported HD. HD ready one surely would.

I'm currently sat outside asda waiting for my mum to do her shopping. Lots of people carrying boxes. Bloke across is trying to squeeze a ginormous box into his Toyota Aygo without any success.
He looks positively peed off and a bit purple in the face. No wonder this time of year turns some people into human balls of rage. Still at least he isn't sporting a black eye.....

To be badged as "HD Ready", TVs have to be capable of displaying an HD picture (IIRC any one of: 720p, 1080i, 1080p) and have certain interfaces, but do not have to include an HD tuner. So its entirely possible that an "HD Ready" TV can't receive BBC 1 HD, etc
No....popular misconception, but, if you have an HD Ready TV, you will need an additional Freeview HD box to get the channels, plus HD ready is 720p not 1080.
As for SD channels, you may well be right, and its dependent on your local transmitter.
HD Ready simply means it will accept an HD input, via an HDMI connection, it will convert input signal to 720, so for example Sky HD is 1080, but a HD Ready TV will convert this to 720, (a few 'HD ready' TV's are capable of 1080 I think, but not that many)

After Tesco sold off the services the Hudl was partly intended to promote, and Tesco's refocus on its 'core business' the Hudl side of the business was closed down. There was no falling out that I'm aware of, rather a decision not to try and compete in the tablet market - when Tesco can and does sell cheap tablets from other manufacturers.
The Hudl2 was stupidly cheap in the last few weeks of its sale, down to just £49 if you had enough Clubcard vouchers. It sold out in no time at all, hence why some people are trying to profit from reselling them online.
Tesco is promising to keep supporting the Hudl2 although I am not sure if that will definitely mean it gets Android M. It got Lollipop recently though, so clearly there can't have been a falling out with the Chinese OEM as they would have been the ones that did the update (and other bug fixes) on behalf of Tesco.

Well the weather was a bit rubbish (in this area at least).
I was at work, so hadn't noted the weather here.
it was a working day for most, can I be bothered to go and wrestle a granny for the last TV after work.. No!
Online was reported as a success, high street a flop, I browsed the Internet for some items we have wanted on my breaks. No wasted journeys when they don't have what we want neither that way,

Anything we've bought from Amazon recently, bar one delivered by UPS, has had Royal Mail as its end provider, so much for competition when the competitors use Royal Mail to deliver 'their' post
