What is this nonsensical American Import plaguing our shores ?

Reports of Police called to various Stores in Scotland to quell potential disorder in the scramble for bargains. Websites collapsing due to demand !!!

Can we not go back to the January Sales like the good old days with perhaps a minor Summer one. They actually meant something and were not a gimmick aka Dreams and DFS year round "best ever sales"

I saw one video on FB this morning of people in Springburn ripping apart a pallet to get their hands on a £99 telly. And they were not happy either.

It's a day where we commemorate the failure of rampant capitalism by practising... err... rampant capitalism!

It looks like there's no end to the practice of US culture making the long journey across the pond and being welcomed here with open arms by people who still mistakenly believe that there is something exciting and to be admired about the way the Americans do things.

I don't mind having a start date of Christmas sales, I just object to everything being Americanised!

Not really capitalism - more consumerism, which is not quite the same.
True, although both they both bring out the greed and excess in humanity.

I must say I only first heard of the term Black Friday a year or two ago, now it seems everyone is using it

Well, like the rest of what Christmas has become its a load of rubbish that I have as little to do with as possible. (Except the drinking to excess obviously). As for American imported culture you need look only as far as the fat blokes attire. Utter utter cobblers. All of it.

Up until a couple of years ago, what I knew as black friday was the last friday before xmas where people would go out and drink way way too much.

Yes, that's what I think of when I hear the phrase!

That might have been where I first came across it. I really should boycott Amazon...

Wonder how many people fighting over those TVs will then complain about the erosion of UK culture by brown skinned immigrants.

What an ill-considered comment

Apart from any thing else...

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if we'd be celebrating Thanksgiving next...

I didn't realise it's the 13th today. My calender must be very out of sync.

Those scenes of all the West Indians in the Wembley Asda literally fighting each other over Polaroid tv's was quite amusing.

Polaroid tellys - what a bargain.
