The LHC is indeed just another particle accelerator. The speeds that the scientists are hoping to achive are really quite high: .9999 x the speed of light when it's running flat out.


Any black holes that do form, if they form, will be so small and unstable that they will collapse after a few millionths of a second. In that time, they would start attracting matter, but 1/1000000 sec is too small a time for it to do harm.

But working out the speed of light (About 299,792,458 m/s, or 0.015 Chains per nanosecond) to higher and easier to interperet values, one can figure that out to 299,792 Km/s, then go a bit further with the same calculation. As a result, I found that the "speed" of Light is actually so damn slow that it travels less than a kilometer per nanosecond, and takes a whole millisecond just to cover the measly 300Km between London and Birmingham... :roll::?

Thing is, nothing can travel faster than light as it wouldn't be stable enough. Unless it had negative mass.
