i understand there is still a risk but if a black hole was to appear
it would be unstable and would disappear before it grew

The primary function of the LHC is not to find the Higgs, that is simply what is portrayed in the media as it is the one thing the LHC is uniquely capable of studying, and that no other device can study.
There are hundreds of experiments slated for the LHC, and thousands of diagnostic projects awaiting its commision so the respective researchers can obtain their spectra.
Its a particle accelerator. Particle accelerators are used to produce spectra on the atomic topology of a macromolecule (recently, particle accelerators have been used almost exclusively to study the structure of proteins ... which is necessary to treat and cure disease).
The LHC is just a more powerful particle accelerator, powerful enough now that it can address questions about the fundamental properties of reality in our universe
They are operating at the quantum level. All effects at the quantum level are remarkably (and incredibly bizzarly) different then effects on a macroscopic scale. In paticular, the diameter of a quantum gravitational singularity is close to planks length (10^-35m), which is quadrillions of times smaller then the smallest particle, its like fitting the earth through a hole the size of a pea, good luck
The 'Black Holes' are NOT cosmological black holes. They are quantum gravitational singularities that operate completley differently then those in space. and by different, I mean, that do not attract matter into them, as they are quadrillions of times too small for even the smallest particle to interact with the point singularity.
