Bere Alston -Gunnislake closed. (Now Reopened)

Bere Alston to Gunnislake has been temporarily closed due a sinkhole having been found. Taxis are currently being used between those stations. Plenty of old mines in the area.

Yes it reopened late this afternoon. Couldn't have been much of a hole after all.

I’ve never been down to Bere Alston or Ferrers but assuming from limited local knowledge it would be limited to a very small bus?

According to a Plymouth guard I spoke to they hadn’t seen a sink hole. Perhaps it was on adjoining property.

The roads are incredibly rural around there - only your transit-esque minibuses would stand a chance running between some of the stops

This is because between Calstock and Gunnislake there are two mandatory stop boards (stop, whistle then proceed) and are both at level crossings without gates and barriers.

That's dividing the approximate daily entries+exits by the number of services in one direction only - so the data actually implies more like 20 per service, and that still double-counts any passengers travelling within the four listed stations (but in mitigation also overcounts Sunday services).

(I'm not saying that necessarily changes any conclusions)

Is that the line they are hoping to extend to Tavistock and maybe even Okehampton? I think it reverses enroute at the moment, I wonder if that will still still happen, or if there there would be a connection shuttle service?

It depends who you mean by 'they', but yes there are proposals to extend from Bere Alston to Tavistock. At the moment the suggestion is to maintain Plymouth-Gunnislake services with the reversal at Bere Alston, in between Plymouth-Tavistock services.
