Announced today, 20 November, by the Mayor that the DLR will be funded for extension to Thamesmead in next week's budget
Apart from somehow announcing the budget in advance, which was always regarded as an absolute political no-no, the statement includes that it will extend from Gallion's Reach, as previously proposed, and will include "a new station for Beckton". This is a bit difficult to understand given the existing Beckton station, pretty much in the centre of the area and at the recent bus interchange, would end up on a stub and is nowhere near the new line. I wonder where any new one will be.
Thamesmead is regularly described as a transport desert, but Abbey Wood is on its south side, and has of course done tremendously well with the Liz Line.
