Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
I was wondering if any of you on here have had this; where you really like a band or musician, but over a few months you just go right off them. It's happened three times to me, with the Lostprophets, Muse, and The Verve.

I was a massive Lostprophets fan in the autumn of 2011, but during the final month of that year, I went right off them. It was either because I started listening to the Manic Street Preachers for the first time in ages. It might also have been my willingness to return to my 90s Britpop music, which I'd neglected in favour of grunge and of course, the Prophets. Either way, on the 27th of that month, I came home from London, with my new laptop, and decided to spend the day listening to the Prophets. I ended up so bored doing this that I gave up by the late afternoon, and finished the day with Amy Macdonald, Arctic Monkeys and Oasis, which went down so much better. Since then, I've tried listening to the Prophets and it just hasn't worked, so I've given up with the band.

Muse couldn't have done much more to totally ruin themselves last year. I felt they were about to go the same way as the Lostprophets in my collection by May last year, feeling that I'd moved on from that sort of music and angst-filled stuff back towards Britpop, mid-2000s indie rock/indie pop and 1960s rock n roll. I always felt Muse were much better than the Lostprophets, and so I thought I'd end up getting back into them sooner rather than later.

Then they released Survival, which was bloody awful on an entirely different level. After that was an interview in the NME, where Matt Bellamy came out with the biggest pile of crap I've ever read explaining the theme of their new album (typical end of the world rubbish). That dubstep song they released at the end of July was the last straw. I'm finished with Muse now.

The Verve disappeared from my collection thanks mainly to the efforts of The Drugs Don't Work. It should be illegal to write a song THAT depressing. What's worse, it has a habit of getting stuck in my head on a regular basis. <(

So yeah, these are my rational (or is it irrational? :p) reasons for giving up on these bands. My evolving music taste may also explain why I gave up on these bands. (I've gone from being someone who liked metal, grunge and hard rock to someone who likes Britpop, indie rock/indie pop and classic British music of the last 50 years. Strange, eh?)

I was banned from a pub in Glasgow in the 1970s for maintaining that it was my democratic right to be able to buy a period of silence on the juke box.

Unfortunately John Cage's 4' 33" was not available as a single then. :(

Good Good, can never leave abit of the Manics untouched! :)

As for Muse, i'll agree with you there. I've felt for a while that there best stuff was Black Holes & Revelations, including the brilliantly underated Starlight. But i lost interest again after The Resistance. As for Muse & the 'We are the biggest band in the world right now'...

I always have disliked Lostprophets after seeing them supporting Linea77 around the time Kerrang was bigging them up... Thinking back some lower years from school were Groupieing them (I don't know how successfully) at an All Dayer (I was there for Rachel Stamp)

One band I have gone off is Apoptygma Berzerk after they went from EBM to Emo...

Oh and Opeth after a truly shocking set (from a band that used to be so tight) Mikael was stoned and guitarist Peter Lindgren was shooting him evil looks with every fluff. Peter quit the band shortly afterwards.

Muse ah? Loved their cover of Popcorn, the guitar work was genius.

Singer I dislike: two words, Nicki Minaj, her voice is not easy to listen to, it sounds like autotuned chanting to a thudding drum and bass beat, its not nice stuff.

I wouldn't have thought you'd have ever been a fan... Didn't she used to be a serious rapper before trying to chase the Gaga market? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with her work.

I used to like The Beatles a bit, but I quite firmly absolutely despise them now.

There's a remix available to increase your chances of finding it on a juke box, by Vicki Bennet a.k.a. People Like Us.

There's also some famous silences available on album by someone associated with Zoviet France, including 2 tracks from which you can compare a silence recorded on Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph in London in the (I think) 1950's with one recorded at the same ceremony and the same place 50 years later.

Of course, for an authentic performance, it should be room tone rather than complete silence, and I note that the current offerings on the iTunes Store have been recorded dutifully.

But for my purposes, I would have been quite happy with an exterior location 'silence' - similar to your suggestions - on the juke box.

Any dislike I now have for the Prophets is only because of recent news events, probably wrong to do so but we'll see how it progresses I guess

One artist whom I've lost all respect for is Tiesto. Having become the world's number 1 DJ (according to a couple of magazine polls) he then promptly ruined his reputation by deciding to make Calvin Harris/David Guetta esq pop-dance music instead
