I've heard "a complete revolution of the wheels" to be the threshold for counting a loco for haulage. So bumping the stock prior to being uncoupled would not count.
I’ve known folk count locos had while at work on parcels trains, some who have dotted lines for bankers, others who set minimum mileages, etc…. The rules are whatever you choose them to be.

I've argued (tongue in cheek) that on an HST the front power car hauls the front half of the train and the rear power car pushes the back half of the train, so you should only count the power car you are closest to.

Better still, don't count them at all, as they aren't locos. ;)

A lad I used to know in the midlands in the 1980s was, for his (obviously considerable) sins both happy to record all the haulage he had including DMUs (everyone else I knew merely used units for positioning moves) and would count both units for haulage if he had a pair despite never setting foot in one of them. But yeah, each to their own

There is a certain logic (after all most people didnt set foot on all the locos they “had” for haulage).

There are plenty on here who fudge units in that manner.

I used to consider haulage valid as long as it was between two stations, so Edinburgh/Haymarket for example was perfectly OK. However that does not help with diesel shunter moves, both 'Back in the Day', eg at Sheffield, or in preservation today. So, if it moves, it counts and goes in the book!
Again ,very guilty. In 1970 (yes I did haulage way before it became popular) I did the D5300S AND D5400s which became class 26 and class 27s between Waverly and Haymarket. Bonus, ticket inspectors would never grip you between those short haul stations!

Christmas Eve - time to check out what is working the King's Cross - Dundee and Dundee - King's Cross relief services. A set of Mark 1s leaking steam, usually with something disappointing on the front.

A Haymarket 40 in one direction and a York one in the other? ;)

Yes. Cue boilered goyle, with the advantage that, unlike an EH one, there was a little bit of power left for hauling.

A nice GD/FP/YK dual heat 47, that's the ticket. Or if you were lucky, an Immingham steam-heat one in the 47215-47224 series.

Or you could’ve been very happy to have a twin engined loco in the 550xx number range.;) Merry Christmas

Dundee - KX probably would have been a dull HA 47.......but always a chance of a gennie! The original 20, and the best ;)

Happy Christmas everyone!

We'd be festering at Newcastle Central hoping that a pair of 26s would turn up on the southbound.

The fact that Gateshead hadn't sent over a replacement loco was a good indication that it wasn't to be.

Merry Xmas everyone. And I've dug up another moves book that I found in the loft while looking for the Xmas decorations, so you've got some more 47s to come (but not until April) :D:D

I think you must hold the record for most miles with 37407 dead on the front of your train!

HST Bristol Parkway to Swindon

We had covered the routes due to be taken over by Sprinters from the 23rd January. In the end only the West Highland changed to sprinters. The Far North remained loco hauled for longer. The Ness viaduct collapsed on the 7th February 1989 and the route was fully reopened with a replacement viaduct on 9th May 1990.

A more recent entry, but I hope you find it interesting:

Sunday 17/01/16

390 124 1721 Crewe - Euston via Kidsgrove, Stoke
Because of WCML engineering work, the Caledonian Sleepers had been amended to run from Kings Cross, the first sleepers there since 1988:
90045 2104 Kings Cross - Doncaster RMT
47843 + 47848 (+90045 dead) 2320 Doncaster RMT - Newcastle via Sunderland, High Level Bridge.
Yes, there were engineering works on the ECML too, hence the diversion. 47843 + 47848 had been modified with multiple working equipment. This is the only time I've had haulage from multi-fitted 47s.

Monday 19/01/16
90045 0216 Newcastle - Edinburgh
67007 0450 Edinburgh - Fort William
Bus Fort William - Inverness
67011 2044 Inverness - Edinburgh

Tuesday 19/01/16
90045 0135 Edinburgh - Kings Cross
This was the first passenger-carrying sleeper train to arrive in Kings Cross since 1988.

I chose the Chiltern route to get me back to Crewe:
68012 0841 Marylebone - Birmingham Moor Street
390 156 1115 Birmingham New Street - Crewe

The ECS loco for the Caledonian Sleeper workings at Kings Cross was 86401. Here's a shot of it in Platform 0 on Sunday 17/01/16:1768645591910.jpeg
