I missed yesterday, so here's that day and this one.

Tuesday 25 August 1987

47586 1S29 King's Cross-Newcastle
47012 2B01 Newcastle-Middlesbrough
47012 2M35 Middlesbrough-Carlisle
47012 2E48 Carlisle-Newcastle

87006 1M42 Carlisle-Preston
150239 Preston-Chorley
47340 1M26 Chorley-Blackpool North
47340 1M54 Blackpool North-Sheffield

I somehow then managed to teleport from Sheffield to York (if it was a Cross Country HST I didn't write it down, which was unusual because I kept track of power cars, so I suspect it was some kind of dmu extravaganza via Leeds)

Wednesday 26 August 1987
47632 1E10 York-King's Cross
47598 1M09 Paddington-Liverpool
47418 1E08 Liverpool-Manchester Vic
47427 1M51 Manchester Vic-Nottingham (ran round at Sheffield and did not go via Barrow Hill)
47188 1M26 Nottingham-Blackpool North
47188 1M54 Blackpool North-Nottingham

47293 (86225) 1A09 B'ham NS-Nuneaton
47297 (86233) 1J32 Nuneaton-B'ham NS

This run cleared 47297 for 100 miles (I already had plenty off 293) and at this point I got bored with the drags and decided that clearing one of my lowest mileage LMR 47/4s, 47536, for 1000 was a better idea.

47536 1E28 B'ham NS-Sheffield

We had stopped at a green signal between Chesterfield and Sheffield and on arrival the reason was clear - 47536 had a broken windscreen. A locomotive was summoned from Tinsley, and while I was irritated because I still needed another 20-odd miles off 536 for the 1000 miles, clearly any 47 that Tinsley sent was bound to be .... oh, for f----

47607 (47536) 1E28 Sheffield-York (via Doncaster)

At this time, Tinsley had a small number of 47/4s with their ETH isolated (they were "xy" in the Platform 5 books) allocated to the general freight pools. 421, 588, 599, 600 and 615 were some others. Some later got Railfreight paint schemes, although 607 ended up getting its ETH back and was converted to a 47/8. Anyway, on arrival at York I was happy to see that logic did apply, and since there was nothing wrong with 536's other end, 607 wombled off back to Tinsley, 536 ran round and I got my 1000 miles.

A demonstration that West Yorkshire could be just as good as the North Wales Coast when it came to 40s.

Indeed, although I didn't get much of a run behind any of them. But it certainly beats the utter dross operating those routes now!

It’s hard to believe that it was 50 years ago today that the Rail 150 Steam Cavalcade took place between Shildon and Heighington. The weather was perfect for photography with a clear sky and warm sunshine throughout the afternoon, and in the early evening when the locos were stabled in Darlington’s north sidings. Thousands lined the route to see the Cavalcade, jostling for good positions to take photo shots, or just for grabbing good views. An afternoon I will never forget!

You had me going for a minute there!
LOL, I wondered if anyone would glance at it and go "what?!". The bubble car on the WCML had to be done for the sheer riot value though.

I'd had 47312 earlier in the day from Newcastle to Darlo on 1P38, and then had 47345 from Durham back to the Toon later on. But the highlight that day was the pair of 20s on the Scarbados - Newcastle (1N35). See post 1,687 upthread.

47312 was not to escape for long though, as your post 1,787 will show! Unfortunately I had to have a pair of peds to Peterborough for it, but needs must...

Another farce.

47648 1A02 Plymouth-Paddington
47582 1Z25 King's Cross-Newcastle (via ECML, Washington, KE Bridge, Bedlington, Cramlington) - Hertfordshire Railtours "The Hadrian Whistlestop"

On arrival at Newcastle a second 47 was advertised to be provided for some more twiddling around freight lines in South Tyneside followed by a run across the Tyne Valley to Upperby Junction for a change to an AC electric.
But no. 45144 is standing there waiting. And the gen is that a member of the tour company who shall not be named had used some connections to request this traction, as well, despite it being advertised as 47 hauled. A small riot ensues amongst the 47 fraternity on board. And the train is flagged. Still fuming about that to this day, as I never got a few of the bits of track (OK, a few curves, but still) for a 47. ******s.
