After work, I decided on a little spin with 87029. It didn’t quite go to plan …
87029 1700 Euston – Bletchley
87029 suffered a DSD fault at Watford Junction, so the Ops Supervisor there double-manned it as far as Bletchley, where Thunderbird 57306 was waiting to take over:
57306 (+87029 dead) 1805 Bletchley – Crewe, 39’ late.
The 57 worked forward to Liverpool. I decided I might as well make a night of it …
90010 1926 Crewe – Glasgow Central 28 – 23’ late due to failure of 87029 on preceding train.
90037 2340 Glasgow Central – Euston via Bushbury, Bescot, Aston, Stechford.

Only one class 50 is listed on a certain website for the above charter but my notes of a pair for the first leg to Eastleigh seem to be corroborated by a You Tube posting
which shows some of the steam workings around Eastleigh and Salisbury over the weekend of 27-28/06/1992. Ten minutes into the You Tube posting shows the pair of class 50s arriving at Eastleigh with the charter then at the end piloting the two steam locos on a not so ECS (the stock of the Eastleigh - Salisbury steam shuttles) from Eastleigh to Clapham Junction which explains the use of 37047 on the charter.
