I was travelling from my parents' house in Plymouth back home to London. The plan was to do the 0605 Plymouth – Liverpool as far as Newton Abbot to pick up the 0652 Newton Abbot – Exeter St Davids local service, which was booked for a 50, then take the southern route into Waterloo.

We got stopped at the bottom of Hemerdon bank as the Laira – Newton Abbot ECS with 50035 + 50041 on the front was having problems. It made it up Hemerdon OK, and we passed it in the loop. I alighted at Newton Abbot, pleased with the prospect of having a pair on the local, then they went storming straight through, non-stop to Exeter! An ECS HST was procured to run in its place:

A quiet little track bash with a friend visiting from Poland. (I was off work sick, as I'd fallen off a ladder and broken both wrists and jarred my neck, so I was festooned in splints, braces, and bandages, restricting my movements somewhat).:
