A while back I was looking at the Rail-Gen page for this day. According to that, 47330 (which was at the time one of my last 20 or so 47s) did 1M88 Poole-Manchester from Reading.
I've noticed a few discrepancies when I've checked back on Rail Gen in the past, so I certainly don't treat it as gospel.... I suppose it's the same with any other user-generated database......although I have to admit I've never contributed anything to it to improve the content, so I have no right to complain!

Edit: having said that, I've just spot-checked a few random days in my books across 81,82,83 and 84 and it's actually bang on so far, and there's nothing I could add, so it's clearly building up very well.

I have just used Rail Gen to discover that I had the following before becoming a crank:

14th July 1979

37252 1P14 0835 Newcastle - Great Yarmouth between Newcastle - Grassmoor Junction

I did have 252 twice "properly", so no dilemma as to whether I can legitimately apply the red pen.

I already knew that I had 37010 on the return two weeks later. Again, I went on to have it properly.

I only know the dates because I remember David Gower scored 200 in the Test Match.

A spotting trip to Thornaby shed with a Peak in trouble on the return.
45051 1E06 0846 Liverpool LS - Scarborough (Leeds to York)
HST to Darlington for DMU to Thornaby. NRM 31 D5500 was seen in the shed at TE. DMU back to Darlington.
45132 1M79 1605 Newcastle - Liverpool LS (Darlington to Northallerton)
The fire service attended at Northallerton and are seen inspecting the rear bogie with the driver.
IMG_45132.JPG
The train was terminated at Northallerton and headed south empty.
The 1005 Inverness - Kings Cross HST made an additonal stop for 1M79 passengers and this was taken to York arriving 7 late.
We then took 45128 York to Leeds. The service was not recorded in my notes but was possibly a replacement 1M79.

Rocked up for the usual afternoon move to find one-way dragging was happening between Coventry and Rugby. A couple of 58s were out, plus something more friendly.

Never had a 47 banking up the Lickey. In fact, never had anything but 37s apart from ... 45146. Cheers

The Christmas Cracker II
Regular Lickey banking was done by Bromsgrove men until the depot closed and, post-Hymeks, I think they were 37s only for official traction knowledge and something like Worcester-Bromsgrove-New St (+Saltley?) on route knowledge.

That doesn’t stop any passing light engine being used to assist or something being sent from elsewhere but it sounds like it was a rarity.

A further trip with 47299 (nee 47216) will appear tomorrow (over the same route too!)
Now that's a unique renumbering back story......!
It disappeared out of service a few months after this, after it hit the DMU at Barnetby.
I never managed a North Wales Class 40 bash, to my eternal regret. I am envious!
Those 40 moves were obviously fabulous, but some of the fellow bashers, much less so......I think I've mentioned the brawl at WBQ earlier on here......

Assisting engine for the route over Cannock, was booked a pair of locos.
And in July, so not autumn. I mentioned in another thread a few days ago having the northbound slip to a stand at Bloxwich with a single 47. Maybe there were more instances?

Me too.

ISTR that the Lickey Banker for the Bristol - Glasgow overnight was different on a Saturday night. With no freight running there wasn't a booked banker turn Saturday pm, so a loco was sent out from Saltley (?) specifically to bank the sleepers - hence the appearance of unwanted ETH 45s / 47s on it instead of the hoped for massive 37s.

Possibly, though if I remember correctly, in the timetable mentioned above the second loco was booked for a 47/4 and had a continuing passenger diagram from Brum so the sleeper was sometimes a pair even if it didn't go over Cannock.

I usually had a single 37 on a Saturday night.

Better on a Saturday was when the train was diverted and a 37 was attached at Worcester as a pilot engine to Brum.
