IIRC the inbound service to Pwllheli was something like 90 minutes late meaning that the platform was crowded with holidaymakers returning home form Butlins. Everyone piled on resulting in chaos on arrival at Pwllheli while everyone got off to allow the run round and back on again. The Minffordd change was touch and go due to the late running, could see the Ffestiniog train on the causeway but made it just in time for my only rip on this line

A satisfactory journey on the 1815 from Birmingham, on time at Leighton Buzzard until an unscheduled stop at Cheddington at 1925 following reports of lines blocked in the Hemel Hempstead area. Later it became clear that a tractor and muck spreader had ran out of control and landed on the railway, destroying S&T cables. Eventually reached Tring at 0004 and terminated there, huge delays due to the large number of trains terminating at Tring, detraining and disposed of to the North. Buses to Watford, trains to Euston, and taxies beyond. Back home in Folkestone at approx 0500am.

02/09/1989 I would think the Double Fairlie would have been Merddyn Emrys. I believe it was the only operational DF at that time (unless anyone can confirm otherwise).
