I enjoyed a Saturday taking in the KWVR Diesel Gala. A Gronk, a bomb, two Cromptons, a Syphon, a Hoover and a Cat for haulage made for a varied day. Plenty of folk about, so hopefully a highly profitable event for the railway. Plenty more there today scratching the Fugly, looking at the webcams.

Looked a great day Mr xot. Sadly the other half and I had other plans unless we wouldve went. The first day of the ELR Diesel Gala is our next sojourn out.
Still loving this thread, some belting traction you folks had. Still a lot of anti Duff talk mind. However I can laugh it off, especially if your waiting or wanting something a bit more exotic. Amazing how many GD generators do rock up in various places around the country back then.

Someone should yellow-pen a Baker Atlas just for where the Generators turned up!

My own version of that map would have some pretty impressive coverage, stretching from Exeter St Davids and Haverfordwest to Stranraer, Inverness, and pretty much all main lines in between.
I cannot recall (at least not without beginning to sob gently to myself) the number of occasions when I've done a rancid ECML overnight, and waited for the last southbound overnight at York in the hope of a 40 or a Deltic. Finally, around the corner strums an alternator 47. Cheers (not). At least the good news was they were pretty reliable, but it wasn't what I wanted to put in my haulage book ...
The big gaps in the coverage would be the Southern, and Anglia. Was this because of traincrew traction knowledge (as they were different from standard 47s, I recall), or just my luck?

Unusually for me, I wasn't WFH yesterday. Normally I get into Leeds just as the morning Cat is leaving for Scarborough, but yesterday it was running a few minutes late so I managed to scamper over for a couple of phots on my phone...



After work I got to Cottingley in time for the afternoon westbound. Unusually, it was the same loco - I think there had been some disruption on the Scarborough line. Apols for the "speed blur"...




032 is one of the TPE Cat fleet I still require for haulage. A few ned leaps to Garforth may be in order!

Interesting. My (very few) trips to Kings Lynn were with English Electric traction. Stratford crews had a very broad traction and route knowledge.
