Avanti West Coast Via Settle & Carlisle?
Testing of the Class 805 via Blackburn, Settle & Carlisle.
This is likely for the Penrith Blockade in January 2026. It is expected Avanti WC is looking to run some diversion services.

It could be as I've said previously in this thread, the Crewe to Holyhead operates as a shuttle, releasing some 805s to do these diversions.

I have been alerted to this possible Evero journey on RTT, over the Settle& Carlisle on August 19th. I'm guessing there is no guarantee it will run.

Preston Carlisle when Preston is open after the 5th. Wigan otherwise.

I am not sure what other motivation there would be to run one there in general running when Pendolinos are well suited to that purpose. Given 10 807s and 56 390s, it is very difficult to see how a 'just take the 807 instead of a 390' moment would occur, even if crews were trained.

Maybe to keep up with knowledge of the 80x units for crew in Scotland?

There are already 802 diagrams on the WCML for standard running so I can’t see how they are being used elsewhere?

They use 1-2 units running on west coast diagrams.

The remaining units operate on there core routes from Edinburgh to Newcastle, Newcastle to Liverpool and Hull to Liverpool.

Because they need the vast majority of them for there routes between Edinburgh - Newcastle and Liverpool and between Hull and Liverpool.

Well how many do you think avanti will be running, not alot due to how many 805s will be free and it’s the same case with TPE. They already have 2 802s free for WCML running with staff trained in them so I really don’t get why the drivers won’t be route learned?

They will get route conducted. Avanti won't learn it.
