Avanti Unbookable Services

Hi all,

When looking for trains between Euston and Birmingham for Saturday 6th August, RealTimeTrains shows an 06:23 and 06:53 service as A STP service however i'm not sure if these trains are for passanger service. When looking on the Avanti website they are shown however it states that 'tickets are sold out', making the service unbookable. My assumption is that these are extra services for the Commonwealth games but why would they not be bookable? I will have an ALR ticket so am curious whether I would be able to board?

The 06:23 London Euston to Birmingham New Street 9G02 is a scheduled service throughout this timetable period. The 06:53 9G04 is operating London Euston to Birmingham New Street on Saturday 6th August Only, presumably an extra for the Commonwealth Games . The sold out comment crops up a lot with Avanti services because they still seem to implement their reservations compulsory (Covid) policy. Pendolinos have unreservable carriages so I imagine you'll be able to board with an ALR. I imagine they will be very busy because of the games, are you going to the games?, or do you have the possibility of a different route?. The 07:00 London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street arrives at 09:00, 36 minutes after the 06:53 from London Euston, although this could be busy as well.

I would be boarding at Milton Keynes so the Avanti service would be benificial. Think I will just board and hope for the best.

That isn't correct- it's because Avanti haven't confirmed their timetable for 6 August yet, so seats haven't been released for sale

Advance tickets are available for the 06:43 so wouldn't that mean that the timetable is confirmed?
