There haven't been any general pool update emails for some time. The email I received was in response to my own email asking for any news.Has anyone who passed their DMI (Polmadie Depo) in/after October/November 2025 heard anything further from the Talent Team since being advised they were successful and in the Talent Pool? Seems to be a few update emails being sent that I am definitely not getting.

Superb hope to see you soon in the coming year or soHey mate, it's been ages. You still waiting? Wow, such a long wait. Are you Euston based, I know they need more drivers! They are still training. I spoke to my Driver Operations Manager and he said new trainees still coming in. So looking good for you!

That does help and gives a bit more hope that there aren't any being left in the dark. Seems to be an extreme difference in time lines for applicants so still no idea of even a rough start date. Congrats Harvinder on passing and will definitely be hitting you up for questions later.....don't go anywhereThere haven't been any general pool update emails for some time. Hope that helps.
Surly not they can’t even get the people in the talent pool 3+ years on to a courseHeard in the reliable grape vine the other day applications for trainee drivers will shortly be advertised again for anyone waiting to get your names in the hat
The great mystery of the talent pools lol. But it’s definitely coming soonSurly not they can’t even get the people in the talent pool 3+ years on to a course
Any idea which depots they are looking for?The great mystery of the talent pools lol. But it’s definitely coming soon
London for sure but I’d assume the rest as well going by how long it’s beenAny idea which depots they are looking for?
I would guess that if they are planning to recruit again soon it'll be as a talent pool top-up for future vacancies after they've exhausted the ones available right now maybe? Euston is a rather large depot and Wolverhampton apparently struggles to get internals so I wouldn't be too surprised if they needed it for those two in particular. I'll be keeping my eye out anyway for a second shot regardless!Surly not they can’t even get the people in the talent pool 3+ years on to a course

Hi, could you help clarifying the pay points, when was your first pay rise? Was it after the 16 weeks course or after you completed the entire training 1-2 years?Hello all, it's been ages since I've been here and just seeing how people are getting along? I've applied in March 2023, started training in May 2024. Just to let you all know I've passed my train handling and core route. Any questions please ask , I will try to help you!
Oh dear, I was hoping that there'd also be openings for a depot closer to home. Oh well, maybe I'll just go for this one anyway and say I'm prepared to move. Good luck to anyone who applies!Euston trainee driver open for 2026

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying was on holiday. Officially it was after passing core route, almost 2 years for me. But during the course, yes I received an increase due to industrial action and keeping in line with inflation. The final pay rise is one year after passing core route, next year for me.Hi, could you help clarifying the pay points, when was your first pay rise? Thanks for posting this advert. I'm curious, was this job ad only open for three days and is that typical for the rail industry?Euston trainee driver open for 2026

It was open from around Friday morning and closed around Monday morning. It's not necessarily typical, but the industry will close vacancies early if they get enough applications, which for trainee train drivers will be in the hundreds or even thousands. I remember the 2022 vacancies for Euston, Manchester and Liverpool being advertised for only a day. Thanks for posting this advert. Was that for euston or a different depot?I applied on the day it came out in march 2023 and I start in May 2026 . They close early but may they take time. Updated that as I replied via voice never worked well lol
Hi, no worries. That's good to know for budgeting. Will be a bit of a pay cut for two years but quickly goes up after a couple of years. How are you finding it?Hello, sorry for the delay in replying was on holiday. Officially it was after passing core route, almost 2 years for me. Also applied in March 2023 and still waiting on a spot. Fingers crossed for early 2027 so definitely not quick. Was that for euston or a different depot?
HS2 will most likely have either a mass recruitment campaign when they start wanting drivers for those services. Either that or it'll simply be a transfer of the top links at Euston. But it's too early to say really. I think this particular vacancy is simply Avanti wanting to top up the talent pool for their largest depot since a lot of them will be on the older side reaching retirement within a few years. But anyone who passes most likely won't be seeing a course date before 2028.OK so it sounds pretty much like standard recruiting practice. Last night I wondered if this had anything to do with HS2 preparation but I think Euston would be the wrong depot for HS2 drivers.

It’s for a talent pool so my guess it’s going to be a slow processHi, has anyone heard anything from the Euston Trainee Driver position (2026)? It was posted on Friday, closed on Monday (9/3/26).
It's only been about four days and railway recruitment can be a lot slower than that. In my experience it could be anywhere from three days to a month with Avanti. Possibly longer this time because of the already existing talent pools and courses to be offered to already passed candidates from 2022/2023. Just keep your eyes open and someone will probably post on the forums sooner or later.Hi, has anyone heard anything from the Euston Trainee Driver position (2026)? Alright, thank you guys for the response. I thought because of the fast closure of the vacancy it would mean a bit of a faster process. But I'm sure it's just as popular in the number of applicants as any other. It's only been about four days and railway recruitment can be a lot slower than that. Nah if anything the fast closure of a vacancy probably means it'll be a slower process because they've received enough applications to close it early. All I can say about railway recruitment is that you should never expect anything to come quickly. But in my experience you thankfully won't be left waiting forever, so just keep your eyes open for emails (including your spam folder just to be safe).Alright, thank you guys for the response.
