I did the SJT on a laptop and completed this fine. You would severely hinder yourself if you used anything other than a computer & mouse imho while doing the VSE.

I was wondering if you can give me some details on what sort of questions did you get on the M7SJT, were they train situation based? Or general knowledge? Also how many questions were there and how much time did you get?

Hi there I hope you can give me some advice please. I wanted to know does the M7SJT consist of train/rail situations or general knowledge base questions? How many questions were there and how much time did you get? Iv got test coming up and wanted to prepare myself.

Basic rulebook testing, I thought that was the norm before then the driver manager interview for a qualified role.

Random but recently Avanti have been coming under a bit of pressure due to the way they are running the service, with some people calling for Avanti to be looked into further. Am I right in thinking this could help speed up the process of courses? What does everyone think

You’re in the talent pool awaiting a course date. That should tell you that they are trying to fix the train crew shortage issue. They are training new drivers as we speak (as you know) but there’s a lot to learn and it’s not a quick process. Luckily for us they have two training locations, compared to other TOC’s where it’s just the one.

That call for a review won’t speed things up with us lot waiting but then again I doubt anything will come from it. AWC needs new drivers. We’re here. We’re it.

In a few weeks it’s January 2024, the start of a new year and I believe us lot who have been in the pool will be on a training course. Just a matter of when. Fingers crossed!

Is anyone able to advise me how long it I should expect to wait about hearing if I were successful or not from The OPC in regards to sitting the stage 1 assessment. I sat mine on the 11th December but so far it heard anything back so wondering whether to contact them or is it too soon?

Refreshing your emails becomes an obsession when your applying for this job. I think stage one took about 3 weeks, but its about 10 months now in the process, so you learn to move on and wait to hear rather than checking every two minutes.

I applied back in Feb and passed the first lot of online tests. I'm currently waiting to do the next lot and have been getting emails saying my application is still ongoing however, they are focusing on Scottish depots at the min anyone else in same boat?

I’m in the same boat although I have applied for a Scottish depot at polmadie, I’ve heard of people being invited to in person testing and I’m still no further forward.

It says in the practice material that we will be writing answers for those questions on a sheet and get 25 minutes so obviously they will be a short summery of your answer. Do we have to follow the Star method in that or just for actual interview? Thanks

Just the interview. The 25 minutes is more for you to think of an example that you’re going to use not as a part of the actual interview questions themselves. A simple sentence like “on holiday I had to…” is enough

Try not to worry. Have an open and relaxed mind. Set your examples (answers to questions) the best you can. You have plenty of time to do this. Think about questions that may be posed to you and get examples ready before hand if you can.

Not my experience. Literally wrote very small sentence and I have no recollection of it being brought up to be honest and I did just fine

I was in a similar situation last year where I had an invite to stage 1 assessments in Crewe and stage 2 in Warford, both booked in the morning. Trust me, you definitely want to stay overnight, because there is accommodation within a 15-20 minute walk, and you want to be in tip top condition as stated above. Might be more money than you'd like to spend, but think of it as an investment into your future. It might not see a return, but it's still a choice I'd recommend personally.

Could be any time really, not sure there's any way of knowing. Just focus on the now is all I can say and worry about waiting for a DMI later.

I have been waiting a few weeks now. But as @Sorcerer has said, just focus on your next stage and think about it when it’s time. Good luck.
