Just as an info: from this week, the Vienna - Passau - Nürnberg - Frankfurt/Berlin ICE service is severely limited for the rest of the 2026 timetable year.
There are only three direct ICE train pairs between Vienna and Nürnberg, diverted via Ingolstadt, which adds about one hour of travel time.
From the summer until the TT change in December, there will be no service via Passau at all and passengers will have to go via Munich and change there (for track bashers, there will however be the unusual experience of fast, diesel-hauled LD services on the Wels/Neumarkt - Simbach - Munich line).
