Ashburton v2 is an Excellent route but I must say Shambles of a presentation Has caused Problem after Problem.

I was glad to see this appear ( I love Little Branch Lines That recapture the pre Beeching Days) but was disappointed to find that with out a word of warning it overwrote my Original Ashburton Route for which I had several (even though I say it myself) excellent acts in the making using Cambrian coast stock.

I should also say that the installer did not give me the option to install to a directory of my choice If this is an option I always install to a temp folder on my desktop or in my documents then Manually Copy & paste in the relevant folder with in my MSTS installation.

Why the overwriting of previous version was not covered at the start of the Read Me File amazes me, as usually this is the first warning given on updated routes let them be Downloaded or UKTS CD/DVDs .

Then I tried to run the first of the 5 included actives to find all the consists missing but this was fixed with in 24Hrs by way of an additional download , Then it was discovered that the way the route was named ,was incorrect & yesterday a further patch was uploaded WITHOUT ANY INSTRUCTIONS or READ ME Files on how to apply it.
I think I have a rough idea what to do but am still not 100% certain ,I feel for the beginner trying to get this route up & running.

A little bit of forethought on the part of the author would have avoided these problems & I always feel that inadequate read me file is the same as including no read me file at all & the latest patch that was the case. not one line of instructions or contact details for the author .

While I only upload Activities I always try to provide as detailed information as possible & include at least 2 or 3 different ways of Contact ( inc. my VOIP Phone No.) should you need support .
To me this is on a Par with people who upload activities with out stock lists & does nobody's train simming experience any-good.( and anyone who knows me, knows how much this gets my goat infact I urged for years that activities without stock lists should be rejected without a second thought)

I hope this is taken as what it is intended constructive criticism & not a pop at Reg(refman)Furniss's work which is second to none for quality & detail, But I feel her "that Ship has Been Spoilt for Hap-pith of Tar"

Pete, instead of sounding off here, have you thought about sending the route creator an email with all this in?

I'm sorry David, as I have indicated above It was not intended come across as a sound off & I think I have previously stated that I have been unable to ascertain the contact details of the author.

Attitiudes like the original post here serve only one cause - the creators pulling thier work from the freeware domain - as has been seen over the past couple of years the problems when stock and permissions have been pulled.

I for one have not created anything for MSTS apart from a few personal use items, but that rants like this do nothing more than ruin things for those of us that appreciate all the authors hard work. If I ever had the inclination to upload anything and saw a post like the above, I would pull it straight away and say sod the lot.

I notice that this post is not over on UKTS, where the download is available, where it would get a fairer response.

Meld you opinion of a Rant & Mine seem to differ ,I would view something to be rant If it was incoherent , nonfactual & delivered in a vitriolic nature the above contains nothing but the facts; It is presented in as neutral way as I can with diluting the importance of the facts & the point I was trying to make was that the user could have prevented the Errors with a little bit of forethought . & I posted it as warning to other's, I mean I have almost 2 years experience & struggled to get the thing up & running ,how do you imagine a beginner is going to manage.

The Reason I have not posted over at UKTS is due to the fact that I am not a member there & I can say nothing further than that due to pending legal proceedings.

But I stated plainly in the Original post I was not having a go at the author & I'm sorry If I judge everyone else by my own standards but I consider myself big enough to take a bit of constructive criticism ,without wanting to take the ball away ,I acknowledge everyone may not be the same ,but in the end the facts here can not be augured with .
I would prefer if this thread was Locked or deleted because it appears that some are intent on turning it into a slanging match , that was never my intention at the start.
If the initial post came across as a pop at anyone I am sorry if For some reason some folk haves misinterpreted my intentions , but that was never my intention & I speak as someone who has been a victim of Nit-picking & rivet counting.

Pete

No intention of turning it into a slanging match at all - the right to free speech is available to all unless I have missed something overnight. I was only expressing MY OPINION - take it or leave it. Maybe I missused the term 'rant' and with afterthought shouldn't have used it.

Oh sod it can't be bothered to carry on - its not worth the time and effort.

Mods feel free to do whatever you think is appropriate
