Arrogance at a level crossing.

I think that arrogance is self evident by the action of the driver as shown in the video.
It may be coincidence that many here associate that type of car with such a style of driving. The image of the cars created by the 'aspirational' advertising can be misread by drivers of them leading to an arrogant attitude to other road users.Those drivers provide plenty of examples to reinforce any latent confirmation bias.

Here's another example of it, an Audi surprise surprise. Can't even park in the space properly. This is at Sainsburys in Newcastle spotted by a relative of mine on Facebook.

Yes it would - at least by me. The driver is arrogant insofar that he/she feels they are more important than the other road users. They are displaying a presumption that they can do whatever they want without sanction.

With regards to the type of vehicle in question, the high driving position with the go-anywhere nature of the vehicle means that drivers can start to feel somewhat invincible and disconnected from other road users. Bumping over a kerb onto the pavement is nothing to a Range-Rover, whilst it would be a different prospect entirely in an old Fiesta! And as AM9 alluded above, the aspirational way that the vehicles are advertised only exacerbates that feel of invincibility.

People that don't wait at level crossings are just impatient arrogant idiots who think they are untouchable and above the law and won't be in any danger. Surprised haven't seen this happen at Kingston Park, Newcastle as it's an open level crossing with no barriers for the Tyne & Wear Metro that runs through there.

There have certainly been some incidents at Callerton Parkway which is also unbarriered (in common with all level crossing on the Nexus Rail network).

One important difference is that those Nexus Rail unbarriered crossings do not make road vehicles wait for long. The red lights only start flashing when the Metro is ready to depart from the adjacent platform and they never wait for a second Metro to cross. (If there is a Metro at both platforms, only one will be cleared to depart. The other train will have to wait for the level crossing to 'cycle through' before being cleared to depart.)

Whereas on fully barriered Network Rail crossings, the road vehicles might have to wait for a few minutes (depending on traffic, location and train speed). It's likely to be a local who knows how long they'll have to wait who displays that arrogance by just driving around the other waiting vehicles.

Especially to use it for someone in an expensive car.

I know several people who drive Evoques, some in white, none of whom are like that.
I suggest that to make such stupid generalisations shows more about your attitude than those of other Evoque drivers.

At work I tend to find driving that the car that just just pulled straight out in front of me without looking is either a Range Rover or a Qashqai.
The one that is in the oblivious bubble and will not use their mirror at all is the Fiat 500.
The one that combines pulling out, not using the mirror or pulling over and not slowing down to be a BMW or Audi.

As an aside, I've seen the animated indicators on some Audis. I always find those a funny bolt on, since 50% of Audis are the model that does not come with indicators at all.

But 9 times out of 10, the car up one's chuff or over the white line in the middle of the road coming towards one does tend to be a fashion victim car such as one of these. For the benefit of the few of us who aren't Facebook mates with the videographer , I found a longer version here. Although it does include the end of the opening overtake mentioned, I would have liked it to start a few seconds earlier still, just to get a feel for the road and traffic at that point.

Anyway yes, total idiot.


Regarding stereotypes, back in the 80s and 90s it seemed that Mercedes drivers were the worst, followed by BMWs, with Audis being the sensible guys out of the "fast German cars" mob. These days it seems to have precisely reversed: Audis seem the worst, and Mercedes guys now seem positively sensible, with BMWs being a bit better than they used to be (although I did see one parked in a disabled bay without a badge at my doctor's today, just to introduce some pointless anecdotal evidence ).


As for indicators, I now feel very last century as I too have only ever driven cars with "normal" indicator stalks; all this stuff about two stage button pressing sounds completely alien to me...

It's one of those features that just seems very logical once you have it. I now find it feels strange when in a car that doesn't support it!
