A motorist has been caught on camera apparently undertaking cars and narrowly missing pedestrians to avoid waiting at a level crossing.

A Range Rover Evoque mounted the pavement and missed a young child and two women, one pushing a pram, in Oulton Broad, Suffolk.
The footage was filmed on a dash-cam and has been reported to authorities.

Suffolk's police and crime commissioner Tim Passmore described the driver's actions as "appalling".

The footage filmed on Thursday shows the Evoque stop to queue in traffic at the crossing.

The driver then drove up the inside lane, mounting the pavement slightly, before driving through the closing gates....

May well be so, but he or she will still get some straight talking from the police, details will be recorded, and it will be a bad piece of background if the same driver is found doing anything stupid again.

It's CCTV. It will be used for the purpose of detecting a criminal offence.

Few offences there. Good thing about traffic offences is they tend to be black and white. I sense a charge of dangerous driving coming on.

Police forces often appeal for witnesses who have a dash cam to come forward after incidents and accidents (Much like how they ask for any mobile phone footage of incidents), and I've certainly heard of the footage being used to prosecute, especially that recorded by bikers and cyclists.

The original has appeared on my Facebook feed; the guy who took it is a friend of a friend of a friend (tenuous, but true!)

The video is much longer, and the Evoque number plate is clearly visible earlier on when it overtook the Dashcam driver in a move that someone charitable might describe as 'brave'.

Someone has checked out the plate, and the vehicle appears to be untaxed as well. I sense a good few points heading his/her way...

But certain vehicles seem to attract certain drivers consistently. Range Rovers seem to attract people who think that the highway code is entirely optional, just as BMWs seem to attract people who have non-functioning left hands!

BMW indicators or lack of use is a design fault, I borrowed a 1 series recently, and when pressed to indicate it flashed 3 or 4 times then turned off eveyrtime I used them.

You misinterpreted. The Dashcam footage is in essence what many still refer to as CCTV.

Add some Audi drivers to this list list as quite a few of them drive like idiots. For example I had not one but 2 tailgaters and both of them Audi drivers a couple of weeks ago when in a 50 zone and they then sped up the inside lane of the dual carriageway (A184 road going onto A1 out of Newcastle with one lane onto northbound A1 and the other lane going onto southbound A1) then cut in right in front of my car and sped up the A1, which is a 50 limit past Newcastle and there were roadworks at the time with only 1 lane open on the A1 and workmen on the road.

Most modern cars have a setting for indicators, where one can choose to have the 'tap' give one flash or three, ideal for lane changes on dual carriageways or motorways. Why anyone would choose the single flash setting is beyond me though. In the last of these off-topic asides, Audis do seem to have overtaken BMWs as the vehicle of choice (along with an assortment of Chelsea Tractors, mostly white) for arrogant impatient road-hogs.

Regarding the incident in question, I would hope that the (uncensored for broadcast) footage would be evidence enough to land that idiot with a bagful of points and a hefty fine. Ideally anyone who does such a stupid and reckless thing should have their vehicle seized.

There's two notches, the first is for lane changes and flashes 3 times, the second one keeps it on, and you push it to the first one either way to cancel.

It may be coincidence that many here associate that type of car with such a style of driving. The image of the cars created by the 'aspirational' advertising can be misread by drivers of them leading to an arrogant attitude to other road users.Those drivers provide plenty of examples to reinforce any latent confirmation bias.
