Posting on this thread due to the location the vehicles are at. Arriva (I believe the Merseyside division) have bought numerous examples of 18-reg ex-Preston Bus Streetlites from Bus & Coach World in Blackburn, some of them currently being repainted.

5 were delivered to Bus and Coach. They're getting painted and interior refurbishment in Arriva colours. I think they're for tendered services that currently have minibuses on them. They were bought from Preston, B&C World had capacity to do the refurb. They would normally be done in house at St Helens.

Bootle took delivery of the first three of six new Volvo MCV Evoras on Friday (15th) which are in LCR Metro livery but with standard Arriva interiors.
Fleet numbers

3232 - BU25ZDD
3233 - BU25ZDE
3234 - BU25ZDF
3235 - BU25ZDG
3236 - BU25ZDH
3237 - BU25ZDJ

3233, 3234 & 3236 are the ones that arrived. They'll be used on all Bootle routes and, along with 9 second hand ones from Luton, they should see off virtually all the Pulsars from this depot.

I think they'll be released once the midlands get their new buses. Things seem to be moving along now after months of nothing, so shouldn't be too long.

Thanks for this, but wasn't Friday actually the 16th?

Im surprised how well the livery works on every it's been put on so far, definitely an upgrade from the muddy turquoise

New CC12 service starts next week between Rhyl and Llandudno mostly via the A55. The latest buses magazine states that coaches that were on the London to Luton Airport service are to be used.

The magazine article also states that the X51 from Rhyl to Wrexham will become TrawsCymru T13 around September.

Leading bus operator Arriva launches the Cymru Coastliner: a new express summer coach service for North Wales

Arriva is bringing the North Wales coast within easy reach with the launch of a new express coach service, just in time for the summer holidays.

The Cymru Coastliner will run from 22 June to 25 August and will connect Rhyl and Llandudno in under one hour.

Route CC12 will serve popular coastal hotspots including Kimnel Bay, Towyn, Abergele, Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea.

The service offers a comfortable and convenient way to travel between some of the region’s best-loved seaside destinations.

Operating hourly, seven days a week, the Cymru Coastliner’s air-conditioned coaches will provide a hassle-free way to travel the network.

Adam Marshall, head of commercial for Arriva Cymru, said: “This is a fantastic addition to our network for the summer, connecting communities and attractions across the North Wales coast.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve created for our customers with the Cymru Coastliner and we’re looking forward to welcoming them on board.

“It’s just one example of how we’re looking to grow the network – offering people a genuine alternative to the car, which will help ease congestion and support sustainable travel choices in North Wales.

“We’ve done all we can to make it as easy as possible for our customers to choose public transport, whether they’re planning a beach day, organising a family trip or visiting some great seaside towns.”

What a silly service in the scheme of things. Made needlessly slower with the stop placement. IE, just to serve Rhos on Sea you are wasting easily 5 minutes. Cut that out and that will be a much better service.

Goodness knows how well it's going to cope accessibility wise because Rhyl Bus Station is not suitable for a wheelchair lift to be deployed, you need to pull out in the the middle of the road (I know from experience having done it!). And given the bucket and spade trade, those kinds of groups and families won't want to be faffing around with the buggies and pushchairs. That's going to majorly affect dwell time.

Seems like the sort of service that should be ran by double deckers, and would infact do a damn sight better trade if it was simple double deckers. You aren't limited to 47 odd seats, you are being as accessible as possible for wheelchairs and for families. You don't have as bad dwell time either. No issues with type training either and having to specifically train drivers on wheelchair lift and strap operations.

An express 12 has been a long time coming, in my opinion though, this has been set up in such a silly way that is is kind of deemed to fail. Almost as if everyone has asked for it and Arriva is doing a deliberately silly job to prove a point. Not as if there aren't going to be a number of deckers becoming available from Merseyside in the next few weeks either (as their frequencies drop for the summer) which could do the runs instead and be a damn sight less hassle for drivers, the depot and passengers.

That's interesting development, the CC12 is a lot faster than the 12, as the 12 takes around 90 minutes, the CC12 is 53 minutes, hoipe its well used so it can be an all year round service.

Cymru Coastliner Tickets

CC12%20Fares.jpg

Standard Wales area and 1Bws tickets will not be valid.
However, CC12 drivers will be able to offer customers with standard multi-journey tickets a ‘top-up’ single fare when boarding

  • £1 adult single journey
  • 70p child/young person single journey
  • £2 family single journey
Coastliner multi-journey tickets can also be used on all Arriva buses throughout Wales and Chester. Service 12 also operates along this corridor up to every 12 minutes between Rhyl and Llandudno with the last journey from Llandudno after 23:00 daily.

Wales concessionary passes are also valid on CC12. English/Scottish concessionary holders can purchase tickets at the child price.

If it was normal buses, there is potential for it to be nearly year round but it would rely upon getting support from Coleg Llandrillo to move some of their students onto the service rather than dedicated closed door buses.

As a coach, it has no chance of working longer term and it's nothing more than a gimmick.

Indeed and little or no chance of keeping to time when the sun shines!

Operators in other parts of the country run open top buses in tourist hotspots, and holidaymakers who are car users are more likely to ditch the car and travel on an open top bus, mainly for novelty value, than an ‘express’ coach.

There is a decent train service for car drivers wanting to leave the car behind and get from A to B relatively quickly.

Interestingly the CC12 appears to be the only bus service in north Wales not to be part of the 1BWS ticketing scheme.

A day ticket for the CC12 is £8 whereas a 1BWS day rover valid on virtually every bus in the region is £7.

Advance tickets on some trains between Rhyl and Llandudno can be purchased for less than £4 single, even less with a railcard!

We were over that way a couple of weeks ago, and bought the Arriva Duo Day ticket which was £12.50 and started at Rhyl before going to Rhos and then onto Llandudno. Interesting to see this wouldn't be valid on the new CC12, as there's not just the price difference but the lack of availability with the other services.

Correct; a trio of Tourismos (7203/4/5) from Arriva Midlands (Beds & Bucks). Only 7203 sports a change of tracking ID so far.

Surely a coach would have better time keeping since it can actually keep to time better since it can actually do a reasonable speed along the A55 rather than squealing along with a turbo?

Personally I'd much rather be using a coach which is an alternative to a train rather than a double decker which is poor as a comparison and no doubt the market they're trying to go for.

You do realise that this service will only be on the A55 for a matter of 6 miles (works out to be less than 10 minutes of the overall 53 minute journey time. The other 11 miles of the route is on 20-30mph roads. And any time saved by a coach doing the speed limit on the A55, will be negated quickly by the longer dwell time as drivers will be in and out of the lockers to store shopping trolleys or pushchairs.

It's interesting to compare the schedule (53 mins end to end) with that of the original Cymru Coastliner, which achieved Chester to Caernarvon (as it was then spelt!) in 3 hours 28 mins, and the equivalent Rhyl to Llandudno section in just 45 minutes. And this with three more stops (14 compared with 11) on that section.

The 4 (?) Solo's from Arriva Yorkshire seem to be at Bangor now (0726 - 0729) - I've forgotten the reason for the '0' in the fleetnumber ?

There's also a badly damaged double decker at the back of the depot - anyone know what happened here ?

I wonder if anyone has any news on how well the CC12 Cymru Coastliner is doing…

Whilst I was in Llandudno today I saw the 1500 departure towards Rhyl heading down Mostyn Street, Llandudno 10 minutes late with 1 passenger on board and I also saw the 1700 departure, on time with what looked 2 or maybe 3 passengers on board.

I returned to Deganwy on the 1742 train from Llandudno with circa 100 passengers boarding.

Just a random snapshot but not looking great for the CC12 especially as Llandudno was extremely busy due to the Caribbean type weather!

Perhaps Saturdays aren’t the best days for the CC12 as it is a main caravan changeover day?

I hadn't realised this service had started until we were in Llandudno earlier this week. Purely by chance we ended up catching the service back from Rhos; after waiting for about twenty minutes it turned up at the same time as three (yes three!) double deckers on the 12. It took the driver ages to issue tickets so although we did overtake the 12s en route they pulled in immediately behing us at the Palladium. There were probably about 10 other passengers on with no more pick ups.

As @TheSel notes the journey takes longer than it did on the original Coastliner. That didn't go via Rhos and I'm surprised that the CC12 goes that way. However, it's worth bearing in mind that the Coastliner summer timetable in the seventies was a work of fiction. The A55 main road still went through Colwyn Bay and Conwy and delays of over two hours on the whole journey weren't unknown.

Kind of feels like the CC12 was set up to fail from the start, that the 1bws day ticket isn't valid, then add in an hourly service & premium fares, can't see the CC12 returning for next summer, unless Arriva revise ticket acceptance.

The 329/360 are going to be operated from the Runcorn Garage from September. Notices went out at the start of the week. Drivers have the option to transfer and stay with Arriva. So the 612 is going to be an interesting one

Interesting that Arriva have kept them but they’ll have to be given up if Halton ends up being included.

Interesting & likely the 329/360 will interwork with the 110/X30, unless Arriva increases the 110 frequency to every 20 minutes.

I'd like to hope that this springs Arriva into action improving Runcorn to Warrington links. Either to get drivers back to the depot, or to reduce dead mileage. That said, I won't hold my breath.

How will duties work with Arriva keeping 329/360 and running them from Runcorn Depot? Certainly be a long duty for drivers doing them, also is it even possible to do 110,329,360 and return before having a break or will the services be split in Warrington with a driver either doing a 329 or a 360 after coming in from Runcorn and not doing both?
