Copped it today on 34s! Them lights on Fleet Ln/Parr Stocks Rd are really messing with 31/34/34A/329s

They are getting beyond the joke now as the other day my mate had to run out of service due to being so late and all 3 Buses on the 31 came into St Helens together

2211 failed on the 156s today, If anyone spots it out tomoz let me know :)

Childwall Blues, is Speke the only surviving bus depot in South Liverpool now? Has Garston and Prince Alfred Road gone? I know that Dingle went many moons ago.

Speke is the only South Liverpool Depot for Arriva yes, other Arriva Depot is at Green Lane (Old Swan/Stonycroft) and just outside the city border is Bootle Depot

For some strange reason Dennis Dart SLF 2261 that has been withdrawn for a while at Wrexham has turned up at St Helens and is in the paint shop. Not sure why its in the but since theres only 3 Darts left with Arriva North West and Wales (2217 at Bolton and 2211 and 2236 at St Helens) i cant see it being put back into Service

Yes Y961XBU has detailed the current situation. Prince Alfred Road closed in 1986 and Garston in 1992. Routes in South Liverpool not operated by Arriva are now Merseytravel supported operated by independents, plus Stagecoach operate services on routes 82 and 86 between Liverpool ONE and South Parkway Station and a service 86C between Liverpool ONE and Hope University in Childwall. All Stagecoach buses operate from Gillmoss Depot in the North of the city.

Has anyone got a contact email for Arriva, preferably St Helens depot, as I'm very interested in 2211s destination blind when it's withdrawn.

Wasn't Garston closed mid 90s think 96 remember the N reg B10Bs allocated there branded for the 86.

MTL era the Garston/Speke depots swung a bit, Speke was mothballed in the late 80s only to reopen mid 90s for MTLs low cost unit MerseyRider then became a full depot again when Garston closed, with extra buses allocated when Edge Lane depot & works also closed [Edge Lane works dubbed Aldenham of the North] around the same time.

I must admit to being quite amused by the idea that there was a low-cost version of MTL, which was already a cheap and nasty operation to start with.

Bit harsh. In the early to mid 1990s, they left the Merseybus ID behind, and adopted a fresh new livery and began to invest in new fleet with Plaxton B6 (ok, not a great choice in hindsight), Metroriders, NC Palatine 2 Olympians and B10B Wright Endurances - it was a decent fleet.

However, they then got diverted/distracted by firstly London buses and then rail franchising. They just didn't have the money to run the business and then the rot set in! Marshall Dart anyone??

Quite. It's perhaps the latter that I remember most - ageing deckers and Marshall bodied Darts - by far the nastiest of the breed, a horrible bus for the passenger, dated before it even hit the road.

London wasn't to bad, however they got into Rail franchising which did it for them, they burnt a lot of bridges when they had the Merseyrail franchise, amongst other things, they introduced Penalty Fares, however even if the station they boarded had the ticket office closed & no way of buying a ticket the passenger got PFed.

MTLs rail division was terrible, however MTL/ even the Merseybus era wasn't that bad, 100 new deckers arrived 88/89, more in the mid to late 90s, however the B6s & Marshall Darts were dreadful, the Marshall Darts were allocated to one route that completely unsuitable for a single deck route never mind a Marshall Dart the very busy 79, passengers were left at stops because the bus was so full.

Its the last Bus with Arriva North West and Wales to be fitted with Rollerblinds, your best bet is to just ask them on their Facebook Page

There is a bus often used in Crewe on route 8 (which Arriva are about to withdraw from) which still has a roller blind and is in the old Arriva livery - don't know which one, but it's a full length single decker. I guess not the same bus, if this one is at St Helens?
