Was on one of the newer Wright Electroliners in Leicester today (the ones with the extra windows at the front). It's been fitted with a sturdy tree deflector. With a few of the vehicles having cracked windows i'm surprised this wasn't done from new.

I went on two of them one day (8034 and 8039) when I first noticed the revised tree deflector design... and also that the broken corner windows had been replaced on neither bus beforehand!

Plans for new "night buses" in Shrewsbury, complete with N-numbers ... except that these aren't night buses as anyone who has been to a bigger city would understand them, they are running until midnight and so would be better described as "evening buses". Still an improvement on the poor offering at the moment, but I can't help thinking that a one month trial won't be long enough for passengers to start to change their travel patterns or to really see the potential demand.

Three night buses will run as part of a month-long pilot in Shrewsbury, made possible by local funding.

With the support of the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership, the N11, N25 and N27 night buses will run until midnight along the same routes as the corresponding daytime services.

In response to calls from local businesses, hospitality workers, and evening visitors, the trial will run from 24 November-23 December to assess demand for a long-term night service.

The three routes, which will operate Monday to Saturday, will serve all stops on the way to Gains Park, Harlescott and Bayston Hill, with some additional stops in the town centre.

The 11, 25 and 27 services — operated by Arriva Midlands North — currently end before 9pm.

The scheme was made possible through collaboration between Shrewsbury BID, Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury Town Council, and Arriva.

I'm sure the Oswestry 'night' bus was done similarly and that ended up being extended.

It is interesting to see the priorities though when you consider that Shrewsbury is still one of, if not the largest town in the UK without any kind of Sunday bus service. And even when buses are operating in the day, they take so long and get so delayed due to car centric planning.

Interestingly I've noticed that a few of the E400MMCs recently on the 31 route to Oadby appear to be showing the "next stop" scrolling across both the front and rear destination blinds. I'm not sure on the thinking on this... as the bus approaches you it's not very helpful that the front of the bus is displaying "Next: Oadby Parade" as opposed to the route number and destination and on the back it's even worse as the size of the screen is so small that you only get a couple of letters at a time.

Exactly this - each sign has an address number, and it sounds like someone’s got an address number from one of the internal signs assigned to the front and rear signs.

As far as I know, this one had a terminal failure that made it not worth repairing. Plenty of 58 plated Enviro 400s about, I'd think.

The 4 or 5 ex Yorkshire e400s seem quite unreliable, seem to struggle to put all deckers out on the decker routes most days.

Despite some of the Vdl saloons being a bit rough, they seem quite reliable, or they just have plenty of them.

I do miss the Tamworth B9s on the 110, the Sapphire E400s just aren't the same.

At least the TM Travel one is having a reconditioned engine fitted. Might make it less unreliable.
