Northern Rail advertise a job on their website and people with the relevant skills are invited to apply.
Applicants will either be successful or not.

Hi mate

Unless your more specific all I can say is that you need to view the careers page for Northern. The jobs being advertised vary every week so I would suggest that you check it every few days for new vacancies.

All applications are done on the Deutsche Bahn website who are Northern's parent company. All my applications for Northern required a CV, cover letter and referee details. Depending on the type of role you apply for you may get asked additional competency based questions.

It entirely depends upon which role you’ve applied for and whether or not there’s a talent pool involved.

The whole application process is a bit of a lottery, to be honest.

First, your application must pass the initial sift. If it does, you’ll possibly be invited to an assessment centre, then for an interview(s) before having a medical. Assuming you pass all these hurdles and you’re not applying for a talent pool, you’re good to go.

Bear in mind that nothing moves quickly in railway employment and communication with potential candidates isn’t always key; ironic, given that once you’re employed on the railway it’s drummed into you that communication is very important

It’s just a waiting game now. Be sure to contact HR every now and again if you haven’t heard anything to show that you’re still interested (and in case they’ve forgotten you!)
